Solar Sensor replacement

I accidently broke the top of off the sensor for the auto a/c on top of the dash. I've ordered a replacement, but was wondering if anyone had experience in replacing it. Does the dash have to come out or is it swappable in place. Any ideas?

Just a quick glance at the picture it looks like you should be able to pop it out and back in. Maybe someone has a Bentley manual and can answer it better.

Yeah I saw that diagram and I think thats a blanking plug for non auto a/c cars. It would be great if someone had a Bently to reference.

For the R56+ Solar sensor for Auto A/C looks like it just clips in after you plug the harness cable into the bottom.

Does it look like that?

Thanks

Looks very similar, can't be sure as the part hasn't arrived yet. On my 2007 S the sensor is further forward in the center of the long window de-misters.

Yes,

That's the generic picture off of the parts diagram (R60 ). Yours will be closer forward like Brams pics. My pic just shows clearer display of the part itself.

Let me know when you get the part and then we can go from there.

Thanks

Just pull it upwards and it will come off. Then undo the electrical connector and plug the new one in. I've done it a couple of times on mine...

Thanks for the info, good to know the dash doesn't have to come out!...gotta ask why you've had to change it several times. I was just a clumsy idiot with the sun shield.

Tried that and I can't get it to come out. Looks like I'll need to take the dash apart

Any one have a Bentley manual, where they could look and see if I need to take the dash out to replace this sensor.

Bump. Anyone with a Bentley or Haynes that could help? This is driving me crazy. I've spend hours removing the dash and still can't get to it.

The Bentley manual reads:

Using a small screwdriver, remove solar sensor from dashboard, then disconnect electrical connector.
As I said previously, you just pull it upwards. I do it with my nails, but you can use a screwdriver if you like (carefully not to brake it). If it is too hard, spray some WD40 around the frame and it should glide out.

Thanks, I finally managed to get it out by using some needle nose pliers and pulling it apart until it was small enough to come out. The problem was the head of the sensor and been broken off so there was no lip to grip to pull it up and out. It just took a lot of time and patience. Still its done now and I can forget about it. Phew!
