31 sounds pretty amazing to me, I could only average 25.8 in the S.

That is boring
Also most of my driving is city and about 10 miles a day highway which is at speed of 75-80 so I think my average is good compared with other cars and same driving habit
That is still **** poor mileage even for your driving style. The worst I have ever been able to get my MINI down to is 26mppg and that was after a week off beating my MINI like a rented mule at the Dragon. My last reading was still 27.4 after raping it around an autocross track all day. I can drive heavy and still maintain a 30-31mpg. My best though was 39mpg on MTTS doing 70 on the freeway between cities. Now that is impressive with an S and with a tune and go fast bits.

I have been driving all winter with my roof rack and Thule snowboard holder ontop which does make a pretty noticeable difference believe it or not, before I had it on I averaged about 29
Cruising at 70 on highway with te rack the instantaneous obc reading is below 30 unless going downhill

When behaved, I've been averaging 31 through the winter. I was averaging 35-36 under similar conditions when it was warmer and I didn't have snow tires on.

Mpg also depends on correct tire inflation for the road surface and your right foot. I'm assuming that you are like me and have trouble keeping your foot out of the gas pedal.

My 08 MCS averages 32 in town with some highway (36psi f / 38psi r). I've seen it creep to 36 on a long trip. On a track maybe 20mpg (40psi f / 40 psi r). My wifes 10 Clubman S averages 29 in town with (36psi f / 38psi r).

When I try(and I mean REALLY try), I can get it to go as low as 28 mpg, otherwise I average 32(34mpg according to OBC). Unless you're in stop and go, I have no idea how people dip below 26mpg.

OTOH, I did a 280mile trip once to family up north. From interstate entry to exit, hypermiling at 60mph and sometimes behind a semi, I did manage 52mpg :P I don't expect to realistically do that but I just got the MINI then and wanted to see how much I can stretch :P That was on a non-S(although at cruise speeds, the turbo is a non-factor).

As for non-ethanol, can someone mention a few gas stations that don't carry it(10%)? I've looked and searched and I can't find any. I use Shell gas only.

If you google no ethanol gas there is a website that has a list of every station, I can't think of the name off the top of my head

Don't forget the computer is really generous. If you calculate true gas mileage it's easily 10% or more less. I bet I average 22mpg but I pretty much only drive for fun. Computer says much higher.

2013 S here... like most I don't drive for efficiency... average about 22 to 25... on long trips upstate NY, I manage around 29 to 31. I love this car and this community has been very educating... thanks to all that share their knowledge!

I drive about 45 miles per day. About 70% highway. I have been recording my consumption and mileage since October 15th 2012 (one week after I bought my used mini S).

I've put about 6900 miles on the car and have averaged 28.83 mpg. The lowest I've seen is 25.42 and the highest is 32.51. It really depends on how bad traffic is on my commute, and how bad my "road rage" is, when people cut me off. I drive the Baltimore beltway every day and have to drive into the city, this gives me a lot of opportunity to deal with idiots on the road. Sometimes you just have to drop a gear and get around someone to get clear of the moronic driving behavior. Haha.

Being that the car is turbo, I don't expect it to be the same as my Honda that got 36 mpg combined. But for what the car is, and the smile it puts on my face every day, I'm perfectly fine with 28+ mpg as an average.

Maybe I drive too hard, but once i turned sport off and drove granny style and 22. Checked with the AP and got no codes, the rear o2 hovered around 1.8, whatever that means. Im not sure what to monitor. My weekly commute is going about 4 miles there and 5 miles back, there being about 10 minutes and back being 15, and Im sure thats why its bad. Not too much else on top of that, but I get occasional freeway driving.

Edit: The gas isnt quite $5, about $4.5~4.6. And we dont even get 93 octane! California...

I've had my 08 MCS for about 7 months now... bought at the end of August. Was getting around 31 mpg till it started really getting cold here. Then it dipped down to around 27/28... still not bad. Prolly the funniest and most efficient car I've owned. Last car was a Subie and was getting between 15/17 mpg in it. Sucked!! I do mostly in town driving with some highway thrown in.

Some of you guys getting crappy mileage I have to ask, are your tires properly inflated? I would have to believe no. Also like I have said in previous threads about this very thing the way to get great mileage out of an S or JCW is to stay out of boost. There is no point in stop and go traffic to floor it off of every light getting into boost just to stop in a few feet. When I see crappy gas mileage like some of you are saying all I can think is you are going around like a teenager with a turbo Civic blowing off at every person on the strip.
