This after a 10 mile (reset once on the start of the highway drive) on a fairly level highway... CC was set for about 63, brake and accelerate a few times... I had pulled over at a rest stop to take the pic.

Car is a 2013 r55s. This was the first highway drive I was able to try out since getting Piper a few days ago... (6 speed).. Windows up, A/C on.

Needless to say, given how much fun the car is to drive.. I was SUPER pleased to see 40 mpg.. After pulling out, and driving 75 it had dropped to 38.8 mpg... Still... WAY better than the old Audi (26 highway..).

Around town I seem to be getting about 28..

Quote: What are the ramifications of running your tank that low? I get more fuel somewhere when the car dings at me the first time and the second. So, somewhere between 50-80 miles left according to its estimate.

My ubderstanding is that FI cars with high pressure fuel pumps located in the gas tank use the fuel in the tank to cool the fuel pump and running your tank too low on fuel can cause the fuel pump to overheat and could cause fuel pump failure.
For this reason, I tend to keep at least a 1/4 tank between refills.
I have several ethanol free stations to choose from on my commute. On each vehicle I have used, I have gained 8% in MPG when switching from E10. '99 Accord V6, '03 Buell XB9SL, and now my Mini is just on it's third tank and I can only assume the full tank it came with was E10. My commute MPG is up to 32.5 on the last tank. My commute is mixed with an average of about 28mph, 25 miles each way.
I applaud your sanity

This is the record I keep with odometer readings and gallons purchased since about a month after I bought the car new. Car has about 2k more miles than this chart shows because I didn't start using the app until I had already had the car a month.

Even with a 70/30 split city/hwy driving, I average 33 in the summer and 31 in the winter. Losing the back seat certainly helps out.

Plus since you live in Nebraska, you don't have any turns to accelerate out of...

I drive mine like I stole it, (once it warms up), I live in the country with lots of twisty roads, and it's lifetime avg is 30.9 mpg.

Did ~40 miles roundtrip averaging 30 mph in the 2012 S auto. Surprisingly it got low 40's. My blood was boiling following people at that speed (limit is 35) but the engine sipped gas. Non sport mode.

Quote: Feel free to provide me what gas stations don't carry ethanol? I use Shell religiously.
there is an android app of all the ethanol free stations, closest to me is about 160 miles...
I get mid 20's, straight city driving with very little freeways. Drive it like I don't care about the mileage. I think this will pick up with new plugs and a carbon clean.

Not counting the first 1,500 miles or so of break-in, my 2013 MCS is averaging 34.5 MPG, but a lot of that is from two 720-mile round trips to upstate NY. Locally, it's about 33.5.

Ok, that's good to know. I seem to remember people saying they were getting 35-40 mpg in their S's, but maybe I was wrong. Perhaps I want the regular Cooper instead.
2001 S ,as most of the earlier posters 30-33 Just ignoring mileage and driving semi-sprited.
Hiway 60ish, with passing, on ramps etc-34
Interstate-82-85 about 27mpg
And for giggles; I featherfoot to work, 22 miles, half Interstate,19 stop lights, and a top of about 50mph...routinely get over 40mpg...I DO it just for bragging rights but who wants to drive an S that way?
For what it's worth...mileage a function of driving style much more than giving up oomph with a Justa.
I havent seen any appreciable improvement Justa/S...and the S is LOTS more fun. (better resale too)

I drive for mileage most of the time , although no crazy hypermiler stuff. With a mostly highway-commute that makes up the bulk of my driving, in summer I average 37-38 mpg in my 2010 MCS, with occasional tanks that reach 40. That's calculated, not from the dashboard display, which typically reads 2-3 mpg higher than actual.

This still leaves room for plenty of acceleration fun on the on-ramps and my wife often grabs for something to hold onto when we are going around corners . You have to avoid using the brakes to get those numbers.
