Waterpump ?

To all shade tree mechanics !! Last night when I got out of the Mini I noticed some smoke coming from under the hood !!! Not good in my opinion !! So I immediately popped the hood !! Did not smell burning oil !! Thank God !! So this morning in the day light I took a look and saw that the antifreeze level was completely empty ! Last night I did notice a obvious drip from underneath the car !! So today I filled the antifreeze level to max and ran the car for a little. Everything seemed fine !! The level came down a little.. Any Ideas or suggestions are welcome to what could possibly be wrong or what i should do next are welcome !!

Thanks
Jason

Check your thermstat housing as they are known to fail. They can warp and leak.

Look on the drivers side of the engine.

Here is the install article.

Driver side of the engine, you will have a leak right below the thermostat housing or on the backside as that were they like to separate.

Here is what the thermostat housing looks like:

I would recommend OEM Genuine Coolant.

Hey thanks for the couple of reply's guys.. fortunately I have AAA and had the Mini towed to Otto's Mini of Exton this afternoon free of cost. We do believe that the water pump is covered by the two year warranty that covers the recall replacement that was done in June of last year !! I should know by tomorrow evening what the deal is.... Lets pray for a failed water pump because I don't feel like spending my golf fund on a new water pump and service !!!

Just started having problems with my 07 having no heat at idle. Did a search here and found it was low coolant. Great resource! filled it back up and after a few days it is at the low mark on the bottle. Was reading this thread and went out and looked. Puddle of coolant on top of the transmission. Ordered a T-stat housing from ECS above. Hopefully the one on the car will last a few more days?

Gregoryp,

Thanks.

Yes I mentioned in another thread that sometime the pool of coolant can set right on top of the transmission housing in a slow leak. . And then overflow after a while.

If you need anything else let us know.

Good luck with the install. It is linked in the other thread you saw.

*Also since you are going through things, inspect under the expansion tank, I have seen it leak from the thermostat and then once fixed leak under the expansion tank. It is usually a stress crack in the plastic near the base of the expansion tank.
