Uhhhmmm... my hoodscoop flew off when I was driving???

Weird situation... I was going 70 on the highway and my hoodscoop just flew clean off. No damage to the car, all the clips were still in the hood, so I'm not sure how it happened

Has anyone ever heard of this happening? I was wondering if I could get MINI to cover this... it seems like a manufacturer defect!

Probably melted!
Was it removed when your black sport stripes were installed?

Yes, they were installed at the dealership the day I bought the car.

I came really close. It was hanging on by two fasteners. I was going a lot faster than you though It's a silly two piece fastener. One part that sticks in the scoop is a "male" and the fastener that fits in the hood is a "female". I just put a dab of Krazy Glue in each female fastener and called it a day. Don't need this thing flying off at the track! It will still come off if I pull hard enough.

Good news... called MINI USA and they said I was covered under a 4 year 50,000 miles for manufacturing defects..... just depends on what the dealership says, so I called them and they said they are pretty sure it'll be covered but they need to take a look.

Kinda funny since it's not too serious. Reminds me of a guy from the Corvette forum who had just taken delivery of his new Vette at the Bowling Green plant. As he was driving it away one of the taillights fell out and was hanging by wires. The taillights are only held in at the top by one screw but still kind of funny since it wasn't major...I'm sure he laughed eventually!

True... I was upset about it at first but then died laughing when I told my friends about it. Now if it has messed up my car.......

Glad you and the car are OK. Yikes! On mine (2011) there's a screw that fastens the scoop from the underside of the hood - maybe when they did your stripes they forgot to put the screw back?

I know there is a lot of heat generated by the turbo. I know this because I have a "chrome" scoop that I sprung for when I ordered my '07, and it turned out to be a mylar wrap that wrinkled and bubbled a little from the heat in five or six places. I put my third chrome scoop on it earlier this year (the dealer replaced it once under warranty) and within a month it too wrinkled like the previous two. Point being, the heat quite possible could warp it enough to cause issues.

My wife hit a vulture with hers and knocked it off. I just stuck it back on, but a few of the clips are broken.

My dad bought a Corvette a few years before I was born (so we're going back a ways… around 1970). A few months in, my mom opened the passenger side door to get out, and the door fell off. General Motors at its finest!

Not that long later, he was doing 100 and came over the top of a hill on the interstate … the road dropped away but the nose stayed in the air …

Eventually the front tires to return to the ground, but it took long enough that my dad decided that perhaps American sports cars weren't fully thought through.

He sold it and bought a Lotus. Later, an MGB roadster.

I guess I come by my liking for unreliable high-performance vehicles genetically!
