R56 Fuel for the Justa - 87 or 91
Any car can technically use 87, however using higher grade has will always be better in the long run, less engine problems and usually you well get better gas mileage with higher grade gas, which will discount the higher price for the gas. I put 91 in my s, for a justa I would put 89 or higher
my wife's 2008 justa owners manual (also next to the gas cap) says to put "premium", which surprised me. then I read the non-turbo N12 motor has a 11:1 compression ratio, which would necessitate higher octane. for a 1.6L that only makes 120HP, I don't think the engine needs to work that hard.
I reluctantly put premium (91) in her justa, not for performance, but as preventative maintenance.

I asked our dealer Saturday that very question and he still recommended premium. If you really need any more reasons to use premium over mid-grade or low-grade most places have ethanol free premium fuel and it ABSOLUTELY gets a noticeable fuel economy improvement.
Gas stations like Costco and dams club use low quality fuels which is why they are lower priced. When it comes to gas you really do get what you pay for. Putting 87 Costco fuel compared to let's say 91 octane from shell has a drastic effect on the engine. And let's be honest here, how much do you really save on gas? A couple dollars probably. I filled up at SAMs club one time and two days later my engine knocked noticibly and that was using 91 from sams
I may be wrong, but I recall reading something about the inability for an engine to burn everything cleanly or an incomplete ignition or something causing buildups in the cylinders etc.
Use the lowest octane fuel that will preclude knocks in the engine is what I've always gone by on two wheels or four.
Cheers!

If you fill up with the same octane and you don't see a difference then good for you and I wish there was a Costco near me! Haha
Years ago, I had a neighbor who delivered gas and he said the Costco gas is the same as what he delivered to other stations. In fact he said the premium brands will often "buy" gas off each other. Granted this was years ago, but it may still apply, at least here in Ca.
interesting read from Car Talk forum

"Costco's gas contains 5 times the detergent level that is required by The EPA"

I think I will stick with Costco

A salesman (didn't buy from him) who appeared to know what he was talking about said something about not wanting to use ethanol because of the high compression engine as it exacerbates the carbon buildup problem. The claim passed my ******** detector, so I do it.
Like Amancuso, I figure the cost per tank isn't worth the risk. If you can't afford the odds beating you, don't try to beat the odds.

Club are very different places. Very different.
It is possible I got a bad batch when I went to SAMs club, everyone on here believes there is no difference from brand to brand
I did the same with my bimmer, and didn't notice any difference too.
IIRC, my '12 Justa's manual says that 89 octane is the minimum, but that 91 is still recommended. I use 91.
You can't (at this point at least) get ethanol-free gas in California. Some states allow it, some do not. If I could find any, I would probably use it.

MINI recommends using premium and top tier gasolines (toptier.com) for the best performance. The higher level of detergents and better filtering prevent injector and carbon builtup problems. The top tier premium gasoline is about 50 cents more per gallon than low grade regular gasoline. The ignition controls in the MINI can prevent pre ignition but at the expense of performance and gas mileage. Some low grade gasolines have over 10% ethanol which can cause failure of the high pressure fuel pump of the MCS. MINI will not cover the expense of replacing high pressure fuel pumps that are damaged by fuels with over 10% ethanol.
