R56 Smell of Fuel
Smell of Fuel
HELLO
Im new to the forums I recently bought a mini cooper and have had it for a month now. However i encounterd my first issue today. After a 68 mile drive, the smell of fuel came from under the hood and there is a soft tap coming from the intake cover. I need your thoughts on this because the closest mini dealer is 200 miles away and im hoping it is a small issue.
Thank you for your time
I hope I can be of help in the future and hope to learn alot here

The tapping could be totally normal depending on what you are calling tapping. Search the fourms here for a sound clip (there are many) that will show you what is normal and what is not.
As for the gas smell it could be many things and the real question is do you continue to smell it every time you exit the car.

I just bought a new mini as well... the dealer said there will be some gas/burning smells for around the first 3000 miles while breaking it in. I definitely noticed some smells but they said it's all good.
Recently purchased new or recently purchased used ?
A strong odor of gasoline from under a bonnet is nothing to mess with or wait to fix IMO and outdoor temps would have no bearing on such a problem.
If you have a new MINI, the tapping sound your hearing could just be the sound the injectors make as they are electronically pulsing fuel into the upper cylinder head. Normal....
Gasoline odor....not.
