Will an R53 engine work in an R56

I totalled out my 04MCS and I've been looking around for another MCS to put my engine in. I found an 07MCS with a blown engine and before I attempted to purchase it to put my engine in I wanted to make sure my engine would work in an 07.

I know the upper motor mount is different but other than that I'm not really sure if it'd work.

It's an engine and a car. Given enough time, effort, and skill it can be done.

Before you start get a big jar. Every time you use a profane word put a penny in the jar.
Before you are finished you probably could buy a new Mini. Loaded. Cash.

I am only guessing. There are engineers and Mini experts on there boards that can provide better opinions.

I will stand firm on "get a jar".

It will not work. They are two completely different cars. Unless you find an 07 Convertible. The convertible continued the 1st Gen chassis until 09.

Go to the OEM parts diagrams -- you'll see the differences. I'm not sure any parts at all were carried over.

I would think it would work. Just and enginenand a car, difficulty is making them talk and work nicely together. Call Way Motor Works. I've bounced a few questions off them and they are very knowledgeable and always willing to help.

If you can put a Toyota (Corrolla/Camry ?) V6 in a Gen I MR2, then it can be done.
If you can put a Cadillac Northstar V8 in a Gen I MR2, then it can be done.

Will it be easy? THAT, my friends, is the true question.

Oh yea....

I'm pretty sure the mount points are different and you might have to fabricate a few parts to fit it. I don't know of anybody that has done it to be honest.

The mount points are different? Do you mean the upper motor mount (I know those are different). Or do you mean how all the brackets for the upper motor mount attach to the block.

You will also likely need to rewire if not entirely replace most of the wiring/electronics in the car, even beyond whats directly related to the motor. The computer systems in these cars control everything and are entirely integrated.

You can get a standalone to run the R53 engine, those are available, but you might need to also use all the dash components from an R53 because I doubt there is any chance of the R56 components working.

I'm not sure how much money/time is a factor in this decision, but it will likely take a lot of both to make work.

Why an 07 R56 over an 06 R53? Do you just like how the R56 looks?

My vote is R53 engine in a classic Mini.

You'll have to transfer electronics as well, and most of your gauges and warning lights still won't work -- completely incompatible with the R56. Honestly it would be easier and cheaper to buy an R56.

If you really wanted to keep your car, get an R53 engine.

As others said, everything is different. The entire car would have to be refitted. It is not going to be a small or cheap task.

Thanks!

The reason I was asking is I totaled my 04MCS and I've been looking for a shell with a blown engine and I found an 07 with a blown engine for a good price but didn't want to jump on it cuz I wasn't sure how much of a problem it would be to put my R53 engine in it!
