Never thought of a MINI as a "Hippie" car. . .

But others seem to think so. At least they seem to think I'm really into sharing. As in my parking space, my lane on the freeway, etc. Anyone else have that problem?

Called someone out on it today when they parked over the line--it would have made it very difficult to buckle my daughter in her carseat. He called me names, but moved it. I apologized and offered to dent his door next time instead. He called me another name.

Sometimes I miss the car seat in the Mini. Next time skip the apology and introduce his valve stems to your side cutters. He'll have plenty of time to reconsider his rude name calling!

We had a run in with a real DB in a 750i in a restaurant parking lot a couple months ago. I followed him into the lot to the restaurant and he went to the back of the lot and pulled into an accessory lot with me following. He suddenly stopped and decided the spaces were too far from the entrance and decided he needs to back up so he can turn around a to take a choice spot by the door. I am with my wife and we can't quite figure out what he's doing for a moment, before I throw it in reverse. Meanwhile his wife is screaming at us from her copilot's seat and he is clearly upset we are blocking his departure.

So after we let him out and we park and head into the restaurant, I notice his Bimmer parked right across from the entrance. It's a small restaurant and and the host walks us to our table right past where he and his wife and daughter and son-in-law are seated. Of course the DB makes as comment "having trouble driving your little Mini"? I said "no, but it looked like you were having trouble parking your BMW", at which point his wife decides to open her mouth complaining that we were in there way. A few more tense words were exchanged before the son-in-law interjected himself and said it's over and to forget about it at the same time that my wife pulls me to the table. I wanted to tell him he's the reason a people think BWM drivers are DB's, but decided it wouldn't change or improve the situation so we at our dinner in peace and waited for them to leave the restaurant before we left.

Now, not to offend, I know several BMW guys, even some with 750's, and they are all great folks, so I am desparaging BMW owners. That said, unfortunately there are stereotypes of BWM and Porsche owners (I'm a P car guy myself) and this guy didn't help the cause.

It's that whole ENTITLEMENT thing... "My car cost $100k more than yours so I am better than you..." I have to deal with it ALL the time with my step FAMILY... "Oh yeah Grandpa it's really nice you have a Rolls Royce Ghost, but you're still a tool..."

I guess we notice how others drive their "CARS", because we drive "MINIs".
Our cars are easy to drive, and they are small. We don't take up much space, so we don't have to worry about going over the line. I usually park a long ways from anyone else, if I can...
I don't know if it's the name, or the size of the car, but people do want to prove how tuff they are. I get people almost driving like they're in a video game when they get around me. All I can say is thank god for the supercharger! In these mountain roads, their heavy vehicles just can't keep up in the turns, and by the time they hit a straight-away, I'm already in the next turn!
My car looks a little sporty with the stripes and being lowered, but for the most part, I don't drive like a madman. I've got nothing to prove.
Guess those people aren't going anywhere. All I can do is take care of myself, and my MINI.

A d-bag in a 7-series? Oh my what a surprise!

I'm glad you know some good ones, but most of the time around me it seems like all of the 7-series that I notice are driving like real.... Well, the dirty-word filter won't allow me to properly express how I feel about their driving.

Seriously, it has gotten to the point where if my wife and I see a 7-series that is driving in a reasonable manner, we point it out to each other and comment about it!

A friend that I play hockey with has an older 7 Series. He sells cardiac defibrillators and other equipment for cardiologists and thus spends a good deal of time on the road each week. I couldn't imagine a nicer guy - very much the opposite of a DB. Of course he purchased used with about 70K miles, and now he has close to 400K miles on his 7 Series, so he's not your typical snobish rich guy driving the big, fast, expensive german road machine. He moved up from an older late 80's 3 Series which he gave to his son (also on my hockey team). The son's 3 Series has close to 600K miles.

I have a BMW and well it definitely has to be an enthusiast driving it because it is a 93 525i Touring(wagon for Americans). I currently have the motor out and am rebuilding it. I go to a BMW forum also and for the most part they are pretty cool(just like here) but, there are those douche-canoes(just like here).

Well it's not a hippie car but as a sporty Euro sub-compact in the U.S. it does get up people's noses.
As in "what are you trying to prove"?
I've had plenty parking lot and tailgating situations with accompanying high blood pressure. Lose them at the next turn. Soon enough small cars will be the norm anyway.

I get bossed around a lot, mostly form lifted huge truck who like to get right up on my boot for no reason and tail gate, which makes me so angry... so i brake check them a few times then take off. I also get a lot of people who try to merge in my lane with out looking I feel like the only reason I don't end up in an accident is because I can maneuver the mini in ways other cars can't do. Man I love this car.

If gas gets to $5.00 a gallon for regular this summer, as predicted, we all may look a little smart and get a lot more interest in a respectful way.

I worry sometimes this is going to backfire on me.
There is a section of country highway I travel on occasion to visit family. There are a limited number of passing places, but not so windy you have to drive like grandpa. I am not flying down this road, but I would lift my foot if I saw a cop.
Never fails. I get a huge four wheel drive sitting on my boot. I add 5, he adds 5. We hit a passing spot, he sits. I tap the brake, he sits.
I fume. But I am waiting. I am on cruise and I am waiting.
Two miles before this road tees it has a series of the meanest S curves. Really tight little attention getters. I can run them easy without shaving the stripe. Or hitting the brake before entry.
So I don't.
He does. Late. Very late. No more boot tick.
I would go back and dig them out of the trees if they didn't make the corner. I would feel bad, but I would get over it.

Mini's are just kinda passive/aggressive out of need.

I just saw an article about some Berkley "research" claiming people who drive expensive cars (in San Francisco anyway) are "greedy". That's from watching an intersection, and behavior of those who cut off others.

I have a short fuse, but try to have fun with the %^#^^@!@)&!

Close. The research had to do with observing unethical behavior. Statistically in the part of the study that watched the intersection drivers of expensive cars cut off more drivers and pedestrians than people driving other types of cars. But yes, some sort of greed reflex could very well be at the bottom of such behavior.

Hippie car, love it. I thought I cornered the market on the DBs. Sorry to hear I am not alone. However, I too love the turbo and watching their awe in the rear view. Only after I offer my own expression.

alot of my friends drive the jacked up diesels, with of coarse the big stacks in the beds and all of them love the cooper, they call it "the adult go-cart". 34 mpg on the hwy, and thats on it. of coarse we always take my car if we are driving more than 50 miles, they cant fill their tank for less than $140.00. the car is a blast and i drive it like that. i have 142,000 miles on it and it still preforms like when it left the boat.
