NEED help! Why you should never go to jiffy lube

I went to jiffy lube to to get an oil change and these clowns managed to bend my hood (not terribly but noticable to me) and they broke my hood release latch. It seems as if a clip goes on the plastic tube holding the wire that triggers the release mechanism but I can't find that clip. Does anyone know what i can do about this picture?NEED help! Why you should never go to jiffy lube-qd7da.jpg

Just by looking at it seems like the clip you are referring to should be the actual metal part holding the shroud should probably be in the recession area of the cable shroud.

Yeah I've jammed it into that slot a few times but it pops right back out I was thinking of taking a pair of vice grips to the metal part but. The last thing I want is to sever thay line

This is what I would do. Go back and tell them about the damage. Then tell them you will going to the dealer to have it fixed correctly and that since the damaged the car the need to pay for the repairs. If they dont agree take them to small claims court.

Also while at the dealer make sure they check that the oil was indeed changed and done properly and the the oil plug is not seized in the pan...

I'm going "Bug-eye" just from looking at your pic . Can't make heads or tails of it.......To view it, one would need a 6 foot plasma screen .

Resize it and re-post it please.......

Not to draw terribly off-topic -- but back in 2006 when I tried taking my Mazda 3 to a Jiffy Lube, they told me they couldn't do the oil change because they (as a chain) were barred from working on Mazda's 2.0L engines. Apparently they ruined a good number of them using the wrong tools.

Needless to say, while I was impressed at their honesty, yeah... run screaming in the opposite direction.

Two lug wrenches welded together to form a cross pointed in their direction does the trick for me

I cant help the OP, but have my own J.L. horror story. I took my 91 Prelude there all through college because they were less expensive and an hour closer than the Honda dealership. I paid them twice over the course of a few years to replace my air filter. Each time, they showed me a square, dirty filter. After my last oil change there, I came home to find oil pouring out over my front bumper. They had forgotten to screw the oil cap back on, the engine had blown all of its oil out. Luckily, there was still oil in there, and no long term damage. I took it to Honda just to be sure, and while they checked it out, brought me the absolutely FILTHY...very ROUND air filter from my car. The clowns at Jiffy Lube had never bothered to pull mine because it was a pain to get to, and further had ripped me off for two filters over the years. I wouldn't let them change the oil on an order of french fries.

How hard is it to remember to put the filler cap back on. Years ago I took my Isuzu pickup and dropped it off at the Jiffy Lube at Sears at the time at the mall. Wandered the mall, came back and they told me that they couldn't change my oil because I didn't have an oil filler cap.

I was like "Huh?" and they told me that whoever did it the last time must have not put it on good and I lost it somewhere.

Lost it in there parking lot I bet. I opened the hood and the underside of the hood and engine were covered in fresh liquidy oil. Yea, cuz I've been driving around without a filler cap and it's all fresh inside there. I ended up going and buying several quarts of oil and a filler cap and topped it off. Drove it a few more weeks since I'd technically done an oil change already and then took it somewhere better. Never again.

Took me forever to get that engine clean. Ok, not forever, but I'm sure the car wash place wasn't happy with me.

Jiffy Lube is dead to me anyway. It was 2000. I had a BRAND NEW 1999 Yellow New Beetle. I was heading to my sisters after new years. It was 19 degrees, on the PA Turnpike (not a lot of shoulder there). The CD I was listening too changed songs... in the few seconds of silence, I could hear the engine making a HORRID noise. I pulled over. 3 seconds after I pulled over, the oil light came on. I waited on the side of the road as the REST of the oil fell out of my car!

The oil plug fell out. I was 1 mile from a total engine seize, and $3800! After I was towed, the hick town I was in had to order a new plug for these "fancy German cars" and after the plug came, they put oil in it and we waited to see if the lifters were going to refill with oil, or if I was screwed!

The car lived, and JL told me "Sorry" and paid for the repairs on the side of the road. NEVER AGAIN!

Never had any problems with Jiffy Lube...the one near me has had the same manager for 8 years now and he runs a tight ship. He's also a good friend of mine.

Not sure what the whole Mazda motor issue is...I asked him about it and he said he's never heard of anything so absurd.

If a manager gets more than 2 claims a month for problems with tech's or botching an oil change...etc etc they are in DEEP crap. Considering your average store does over 40 cars a day that's a fairly high standard compared to any dealership or local mechanics screw up rate.

I worked at the local Dodge dealer for nine years. In that time we had a lot of people come in to have us repair their vehicles because of what JL did to them. We also only had two instances that I can remember of a botched oil change, the techs who did them on both occasions no longer worked for us after that.

Our Service manager did not tolerate rushed work or incompetence....

I guess i'm biased since I know the stats for all the local Jiffy Lubes from my friend...and i've also been royally screwed by a few local dealerships on repairs gone EXTREMELY bad. Including the Mini dealership.

I've had the same experiences people have said here about Jiffy Lube...BUT at the dealerships NOT at JL. Parts paid for that were never replaced, oil drain plugs over torqued to crack the oil pan, Oil stains on seats and carpet, greasy steering wheel, missing or loose nuts and bolts, incorrect oil filter forced on...the list goes on.

Part of the reason i do ALL my own repairs maintenence now. Not an option for everyone...but if I couldn't I would find a local mechanic I could trust.

Correct not all service places are the same. Some dealerships are crooked as all get out and some small shops are very good. It just depends. I can only speak for the dealer I worked at.

I second the notion in the defense of Jiffy Lube. I've worked there myself, and the majority of problems we ran into were caused by other places like Walmart not doing certain things. I guess it all depends on where you go and who is actually running the shop. We would do an average of 65 cars per day running only 2 bays, it's remarkable that any business churning out that much volume doesn't make more mistakes. But yeah, I agree some places are worse than others.

This was a 2004 which came in 2.0 and 2.3 flavors; they still make 2.0 engines through the current model (the Skyactiv is 2.0 as well).

My employer uses JL for it's small fleet of commercial vehicles. They have never ever checked the tire pressures. But the receipt shows that they did and the pressures noted are not the factory specs.

A few years ago my wife took her car to JL. One tire had a low pressure indication when she took it in and it was still low when she picked it up. The receipt showed al 4 at 36 PSI. Should have been something like 32 Front and 35 rear according to the door sticker.

When will people learn not to trust taking their car to a shop that pays their “techs” $6-7.00 per hour.

You get what you pay for...

My LAST trip to a jiffy Lube many many years ago. The tech came in the waiting room to show me my dirty Air filter which they would be glad to replace for a "price". I passed cause I was gonna replace it myself. A few days later I went to replace the air filter and yep, no air filter in the car...........................They'd taken it out but did not put it back
