Not just JL.

JL isn't the only place that does crap like that. Took the wife's Jeep to Monro and they instpected it. They told her it would need new rear brakes to pass inspection. Well, besides the fact I spent 5 years working as a mechanic, I have all my own tools and can do them. She told them that we were going to do them and took the Jeep back. 2 days later I tried taking the lug nuts off, and they had to have pounded them on with the most powerful impact gun they could find. I broke the factory lug wrench taking one of them off. I had to stand on the lug wrench to break all of the lug nuts loose. I know for a fact that the 110 lb/ft that they are supposed to be torqued to isn't that hard to undo. I took the snapped lug wrench, the stripped lug nuts, and the caps (they have that aluminum sleeve on the nuts) directly to the district manager. Of course he told me that they wouldn't have done that. I bitched enough that they bought 5 new lug nuts, and a new OEM lug wrench for her Jeep.
One of the managers that used to work at this same Monro actually encouraged this kind of behavior. He felt DIYers were "Taking money from his pocket" Only 2 "people" I trust with my MINI, Me and MINI of Pittsburgh!

Many years ago, I loaned my 1981 Prelude to my brother for a few months, and while he had it, he took it to one of the "quick lube" places. When I got the car back, I was looking at the receipt and saw that during the service, they "added 1/2 pint of power steering fluid". Problem is, the Prelude didn't have power steering. The best I can figure is that they added the power steering fluid to the clutch reservoir.

It's because of stories like this and also what Mini dealers charge for oil changes that I decided to start doing my own. So far it hasn't worked out too well......lol....

But yeah, I don't trust JL or any other big name auto shops. I've had a Goodyear damage my car after I warned them to only lift it in a very particular way. They said "yeah yeah.... we know what we're doing..." then proceeded to ignore my lift procedure requests, lifted it their own way, and cracked the front body panel, which is exactly what I told them would happen if they didn't follow my instructions. The shop manager then decided to fight me on it and denied it. I had to escalate it to corporate and threaten to file complaints with the state AG, the BBB, and to go public with it. They finally apologized and fixed it.

Bottom line, I trust no one when it comes to car repairs.
