R56 R58
Actually, wandrur is very clear; the R5x designation all depends on the body style you own.
Most mechanical and some electrical parts (there comes a caviot) are interchangable; but there are exceptions.
What are you looking for specifically?

one more question wandrur. I believe my cooper has the bulb and red lens of the rear fog light but i don't know how to turn it on any idea?
if you look at the passenger side rear number you can see the red lens

Maybe another 2011 or 2012 owner can specify, but I think all r56's after the refresh came that way since the back up lights are in the same housing. It looks as if the wire that would turn on your rear fogs is missing from the connector plate. It would be considered a reflector at that point. Many European cars imported into the US come that way because our traffic laws do not require daytime running lights or rear fogs.
I just took delivery of a 12 with rear fogs and the toggle switch is in the same place. The left space next to the right window.
so it goes Driver window, front fog, locks, rear fog, passenger window.
I can check on the wiring tomorrow if I remember.

Front and rear fog lights are 2 separate options with 2 different toggle switches.
I believe all come with the rear fog light-bulb in place regardless whether the rear fog option is present or not.
Some have the wiring in place. without the option ordered.
My early 2010 Clubman ordered without rear fog has bulb and wiring, but from what I understand the wiring was dropped later in the year.
Even if I were to get a toggle switch, the car would still have to be programmed to make it work.

"Rear Fog Lamp" has always been a $100 option for the R56.
(Just try to build a MCS on miniusa.com)
Prior to 2011 model, if you did not order the car with the "Rear Fog Lamp" option, then your rear bumper won't have the two red lights on the rear bumper.
Starting MY2011 (facelifted), all R56 Cooper S come stanard with the same rear bumper with the two red lights on the rear bumper, however, the $100 "Rear Fog Lamp" option is still required for that two lights to function as the "Rear Fog Lamp" (and therefore no switch in the dash if you don't have that option.)

Ok thanks very informative. However now I have several questions.
@drexial can you please take a pic of the back of the fog so I can see if the wiring looks like mine.
@klricks if the wiring Is there can I just just buy the toggle switch and connect the wiring? Or if the wiring is not there can wire it then buy the toggle and connect it? Wiring is not an issue my dad is a electrical engineer. But if there is some type of coding that must be done that might be a problem.
