alarm retro kit question

We just bought a 08 mini hardtop and we want to put an alarm in it. We found out about the retro fit kits from where but we have a question.

Our car has the auto wipers so the stalk is different than what we are seeing in the photos for the kit.

Is there a kit for car with auto wipers? anyone know the part number?

It sounds like your looking at a retrofit kit for the 1st Gen MINI since it used an LED on the end of the stalk. 2nd Gen MINI uses the red light on top of the tach and shouldn't have anything to do with the wiper stalk.

I don't remember which year but at some point it's been mentioned here that MINI stopped pre-wiring cars for the alarm if it wasn't shipped from the factory with it. Hopefully some one else here might know. Good luck!

You can put your VIN into RealOEM.com and find part numbers.

Your '08 is prewired for the alarm. Here are the instructions if you wanted to install it yourself: http://motoringfile.com/files/R56_alarm.pdf (you'll still need to have a dealer program it on the car).

Yes, I found those instructions but I think the stalk is labeled slightly differently because we have auto wipers, is that correct?

Look more carefully. You were looking at a set of instructions for older MINI's. The instructions I posted for 2007 and newer MINI does not involve the wiper stalk.

The alarm for older MINI involves the wiper stalk (2002-2004) or turn signal stalk (2005-2006).

i see you have also an alarm for a 2011 MCS, is it plug and play or does it need extensive rewiring?

The alarm for a 2011 also requires extensive wiring and programming. Also on 2011, though very few need this, the fuse box may need to be replaced with an updated version (Low to High SPEG). We have only encountered this issue once.

We have one technician that does alarms here and it takes him a full day after installation and programming. I highly reccommend a dealer install on this particular accessory.

I will be more than happy to provide installation instructions for you.
