I'm pretty lucky that my girlfriend doesn't give me a hard time, and even stays with me/helps me when I'm doing something to my car (modding, washing, etc). She just gets upset when I "brag" about it. Not that I ever blatantly brag about it, but I just love the thing so damn much, it's natural to talk about it a lot. Honestly, though, I think it'd be awesome to have her driving/owning a 6sp MINI. Now THAT would be hot! But for now, it's her VW Golf which is still pretty cool.

That's a tough one. My wife hated my previous car, a 1966 Baja Bug! She only rode in it when her car was down and forget about working on it with me. But she never pressured my to get rid of it. I had that car for 12 years. When I got the MINI she said she would never buy one for herself but she knew that I liked it.

By the way she had to borrow DAS COOPER once when her Toyota was down and when she got back from work she said "wow that thing is really fast!"

Still not a convert but I know she would not mind driving it again! Get the girlfriend to drive the car, she will understand.

 

I am very glad to say that my wife loves the car almost as much as me.

As for your gf, I can understand it to a point (but only to a point). I know when I met my wife, she could have driven any car, even those I hated, and it wouldn't matter at all.

It sounds like there's more going on than meets the eye. If she hates your taste in cars *that* much, I sense much bigger problems with your relationship down the road.

Time to make a change I think (in girlfriends, not cars).

Usually girls like MINIs. If she is ashamed because you drive a "girly car" then ditch her. Or just do like the other guy said and tell her about her purse and shoes being ugly until she ditches you.

You're not alone. My wife and I own both a 2008 MCS and a 2010 Dodge Challenger R/T. I love them both, but my wife took a while (nearly 6 months) to warm up to the Challenger (now she loves it). Some people are not car people, some people have a particular "look" that they like on a car. Me, it's the Mini and the Challenger. Or have you late-60's and early 70's and then before the 50's. Any other year and unless you go "exotic" I don't like them. My wife doesn't like most of the "70's cars." As I read another's comment, if she cannot adjust her likes to what you like, as I'm sure you've done for her, then there's no point in continuing, but if she's willing to try -- genuinely -- then continue. But true love won't separate over something so silly as a car (shhh, don't tell my car I said that).

 

OP, here's my take...BTW I am of the Female persuasion, Married 11 1/2yrs. now. I am the one with the "Car Fetish", my Husband was never "into" cars until he met me, now we both have the cars we want. We have agreed to make joint decisions on bigger purchases (oh, except for the Refrigerator that died 4th of July Weekend, he was out of town), I did send him pics. though. The important thing here is, it's only been 5mo. and she is trying to run your life now, imagine what it would be like 5yrs. down the road...DON'T GO THERE!!

 

Wow, she sounds really shallow and spoiled. I don't care how good the sex is, it's time to move on for someone who will appreciate you for who you are and what kind of tastes you have.....

 

I guess I'm one of the luckier guys. My wife loved my car, gladly took the Justa off my hands so I could get an S, then when she needed a new car would ONLY consider a MINI!

Your gf may never get it. Tell her to accept it, get over it, or move on. She doesn't have to love it, she just needs to keep her derogatory comments to herself since it apparently bothers you. Hopefully she will respect your wishes.

 

as you can see the car is not ugly lol you guys are all awesome i think what bugs me the most is that why i was into volkswagons i would go to shows and cruises it was kind of a way of life. i wanted a mini because a lot of you have do the same stuff and thats what i love about it. what sucks is i have to do it alone so i guess time will tell but my boots are half laced up and im stretching my kicking leg lol
