Blow off valve mod

Is a blow off valve mod really worth it? I love the sound but I was looking at an hks ssqv and it's 500$...eBay sells then for 200 and says they are universal. So I believe I would still need the instalation kit. So I guess my question is does anyone have a blow off mod and if so what did you go with and how do you like it

Just say NO to vent to atmosphere blow off valves! Trust me, tons of us have been through this before.

I wrote a technical explanation of why you shouldn't in my garage page on my local MINI club's site. See "Steer Clear of Vent to Atmosphere (VTA) Blow-off Valves (BOVs)".

BOV are for the sound only, and I don't think they come plug and play. You will have to cut a hole on the cold intercooler tube (the tube after). They are useful when you have too much boost and your oem derivation valve don't do the job (This would mean a lot of other mods).

Cheapest solution, this : http://www.forgemotorsport.com/conte...roduct=FMDVMCS

If you really want the sound, a CAI would do the job too, easier to install and a little gain on performance

X3.... I'm sure a good BOV helps as much as a waxed car gets better gas mileage. I'm sure in some infinitely small minute amount, it makes a difference... just not enough to go through the expense or aggravation. (of installing it back to stock..lol)

Im not seeing the point of the blow off adapter. and Counrty boy- you do have a good point. and it seems that there is more electronic tuning that you need to do before having a proper set up with a VTA BOV

The R56 S ECU is really somethin' else. It is soooo sensitive to any changes in normal operation. The stock DV works really well and the only reason to upgrade to a DV with a heavier spring is if you're running a high boost tune.

Can't you also upgrade to a JCW BOV? I thought I read that it was heavier duty.

No, it won't "hurt" your car but generally, BOV's don't work on a mini... if it's working for you and you're not tracking your car, then leave it if you like the sound.

There is a stock noisemaker that runs to the bulkhead that produces that noise. MINI uses a diverter valve that recirculates into the system rather then an atmospheric BOV.

Like desiletspo said, if you want to bring the sound to the forefront an intake will help you there. If we're talking about a performance boost from an intake though, I'd be skeptical with most of the ones out there if not all of them. At any rate, steer clear of those VTA BOVs.

The stock DV on your MINI is already pretty good, but there are modification opportunities there too. In addition to that Forge part that was posted, you can upgrade the spring of your stock unit, you can replace the entire DV unit with an OE-like DV with a stronger spring and actuator, or you can really go for broke with the Forge DV.
