P0456 code

I'll try to make this short. I bought my new Mini Cooper S 4 weeks ago. The CEL light came on at about 400 miles. I took it back to the dealer and they said it was cured. couple days later CEL again dealer took it back and replaced a tank venting valve Pn 13-90-7-595-574. Said it was fixed. 2 days later CEL again. I called the dealer as soon as they get a loaner car they will bring it in. I called the Dealer today to check in and was told they have another one there with the same problem (DMTL issues) and as soon as they figure it out they will bring mine in for repair. Anybody else have this problem.

* Mini DTC P0456 - Evaporative Emissions System - Small leak detected

Could be something as simple as a defective gas cap, to as large as a torn EVAP hose.
The dealer should do a fuel tank pressure test to see if the system is leaking from the tank or elsewhere.

Mine had similar problems with CEL coming on and off. Took 10 days in the shop. My progression at the dealer: new gas cap and gasket, reprogram ECU, test fuel quality twice, smoke test everything twice, wire check purge valve to controller, and O2 sensor, finally replacing purge valve (fixed problem). Most likely candidates: gas cap, purge valve/solenoid, DMTL.

Good luck
Bruce

My 2011 is in the shop for the 5th time to fix this error. Just got it back 2 weeks ago after waiting 3+ months for a part to come in and I put about 120 miles on the car and the engine light came back on.

Now I have a loaner and they are going to look at it Monday. Car drives great but it has been giving me the p0456 error since I few weeks after I got the car. Just fix it already.

I got mine back 2 weeks ago so far so good. They had it for 2.5 weeks replaced the tank venting valve 2 more times and finally the DMTL pump. I don't understand why Mini wouldn't replace the pump first it is a known issue. Bryan at Orlando Mini kept me informed of the progress and got Mini to cough up $500 accessories for my trouble.

Sorry to hear. I've put about 3000 miles on mine since I got it back and no more problems. Have they replaced the DMTL pump.

They replaced the pump twice from what I can tell, they also did the smoke test twice with no visible leaks.

I am a pretty easy going guy and I have had just about enough of this.

I used to get P0456 in my Mazda3 all the time. I just kept my scanguage in the map pocket to turn off the CEL and it would stay off for a while LOL.

It had over 120K miles when I traded it for the Clubman, still running fine!
