No! If it's standard fuel injected, where the air/fuel mixtures is sprayed on the backside of the valves, there's no reason for "valve cleaning".
The fuel misted on the valves doesn't promote carbon build up.

Skip it; use the money elsewhere.

my Mini is an 08S, are you saying there should be no carbon buildup on the valves because the fuel inters behind the valves. I'm interested in this because it's on question I can eliminate concering a reduction in gas mileage from 27 to 23 mpg. Thanks, Patrick

On the turbo "S"-models and JCW models, the engine are direct injection (DI) where the fuel injector is in the combustion chamber.
DI does not spray fuel on the backside of the valves.

The natural aspirated 1.6L engines (no turbo) are standard fuel-injection.

Erik, thanks for the info. Please bear with me on another question. My MPG has slipped from 27 to 23. The dealer says there is nothing wrong because there is nothing is appearing on the dash. I found out there could be a problem with carbon build up on the valves which is affecting my compression. Can this be cleaned up without removing the head? The dealer performed an injection cleanup about 4 mos. ago. My mileage is 26,000. Thanks, Patrick

I would probably pull your spark plugs and see how those are looking. Sounds like even before your mileage dropped it was looking not so good. I have never got less than 30mpg even when most of the tank was city and spirited driving.

Check your air filter, tire pressure, and yeah, probably a sea foam treatment couldn't hurt.

How long does it take before it accurately shows mpg? I only have about 58 miles on my Cooper. So it's not there yet.

I am with 6speedwtneed; go through all the preventative maintenance items like plugs, an air filter, higher tire pressure, etc.
Those all add up to promote good fuel econ.
Also, use the recommended fuel grade; if you use an octane rating that's lower than what's recommended, your fuel econ will suffer.

Umm it is always tracking the average from the point that it gets reset. I usually get 470-510 miles per tank on my setup. Has increased about 2MPG with my mods.

Well I'm still on my first tank, and it shifts everyday. Since yesterday was the first time on freeways it went up a bit...just wondering if you have to get thru a whole tank before it really starts giving accurate figures.

I'm also still on the first tank the dealer bought.....at 76!!! POS gas station! I only go to chevron...we shall see how she fairs on the second tank.

I just reset my avg. Mpg every tank. Usually come out to 36mpg or 35.5 by the end. About half and half on the city and hwy

Am I doing something wrong then? I'm at about a quarter left on my first tank and its saying 25.4 mpg. That seems very low.

I would suggest hand calculating your mpg rather than using the MINI computer. I would also suggest running through 2-3 tanks to get an average before trying to draw any conclusions.

lol you guys are getting so far off topic.

Ive used Amsoil powerfoam (similar to seafoam) on several non direct injection engines and everytime the car runs better. Saying that just because fuel is sprayed on the valves that everything is okay is like saying that since water is run in your shower you will never get buildup. Unless the valves and combustion chamber are made of teflon there will be buildup. Thats my experience with it and Im sure that you will find some people that never perform this service.

I actually went and refueled today and reset the counters and it went up to 32.5mpg....so I'm going to leave it now....I think maybe it was still set from when they tested it in the factory.
