I'm seriously wonder about you (op)...lol You actually think the R53 stereo is good, and the HK in a 2010 is terrible?

Anyway, the mic for the bluetooth is in the center, but it is more pointed to the passenger side. It makes a big difference moving it to the correct side, and takes all of 10 mins, and a torx screwdriver.

I also question your choice of car. You bought a JCW and are worried about noise? Really?

Was i the only one that understood what she ment when she said she doesn't change tires, it's not safe? It's not that she CAN'T do it, but rather that the area isn't safe... But that's why you have roadside assistance.

Anyway, good luck with this.

I had an HK on the 2004 and there was an amp under the seat and it was great. This HK in this 2010 sucks, it is underpowered. Really. Thank you for the info on the mic, I never looked inside.

I vote for new tires too. I got rid of the run flats within a week of having the car and there is a significant improvement in both the ride and the noise. I'm a girl (old one) too and I got a can of Slime and a small air compressor from the auto parts shop. I'm also going to add a plug kit.

Have a fun and safe trip!

OK, I went out and bought the torx screwdriver but there are no torx or any other kind of screws to undo, the mic is up in a plastic panel with grills/vents. That panel also holds the lights to tell me the airbags are off or on, I have looked inside with a flashlight and you are right, there is no mic in that middle vent/grill. But no idea on how pry it off with out damaging the the plastic or the headliner. There are two little holes that the torx fits into but there is only a sort of plastic barrier up there.

I bought new tires yesterday, read all the reviews, went to 3 different places, $776 later the road noise is the same. BTW, I have a JCW because I like how tuff the engine sounds - road noise is not the same type of noise. Speed bumps are no longer something to avoid and I needed new tires anyway but this was not the answer. Dunlop Direzza/Pirezza? something or other. Anyway it's done, I'm out of here. Thanks again to everyone, I checked with road side assist and I have 4 years to go, so I'm good.

Here's how you take the thing off the ceiling. Good luck.

Well yes there are... You pry off the outer cover, then you use the torx driver. (it's a 15 or 20) to get the entire panel loose from the headliner... then you'll find the mic.

There's a dIY the Audio or Electrical subforums.
