New MINI. Almost no brake dust - for a MINI anyway

I have a new 2011 MCS -picked it up new in late April. The question, but definitely not a problem, is the lack of brake dust. I am approaching 1100 miles and I have washed it several times. I am struck by the lack of brake dust.
...
This is my 3rd MINI, the other 2 are 2008s. My 2008 hardly clears the driveway before the wheels are covered in dust. Not true with the new MINI.
...
So did MINI change the brake pads in 2011? If so, I definitely want to change the pads on the 2008.

They must have. Mine was the same way until I had EBC Red Stuff pads installed at 2500 miles, then it was lots of brake duist. The EBC pads are now broken in and do not dust much.

Just had new front pads and rotors replaced on mine (under MINI maint) and they must have used the old charcoal pads. Plenty of dust.

I am convinced my car is part of some secret MINI field test. I called the dealer parts counter today and they say the part number(s) are the same for the 2011 MCS and prior years - so no change. I have had the car for 2 months now and the brake dust, compared to the 08 MCS I traded is nonexistent.

A little distance from the wheels and black wheels hides the dust pretty well.

When I picked up my JCW I sprayed the wheels with that new Armour all wheel protectant. 400 miles and very little brake dust.
