New Mini configurator is up with JCW appearance package!!!!

I don't even own a Mini yet but I've been lusting after one since' '03. I think I'm going to take the plunge this summer.

Anyway, I don't know how obsessed you all are with going to the mini site and building and rebuilding your cars like I am. I'm there just about everyday.

The new configurator is up! And the JCW appearance package is there. AND the best part is, it's only $2K and what do you get for your 2K?

You get the JCW body kit, JCW door sill, Challenge spoke wheels (and you get your choice of summer or all season rubber), Dynamic traction control, and JCW interior bits, not sure what that means, but I'm assuming you'll get the grey gauge faces. Just thought I'd share!

Actual JCW

So what happens to the actual JCW, it hasnt seemed to change at all, still $2111 for the Aero kit alone, no mention on VDC install or not. It seems weird that they would steer buyers to the less expensive of the 2 cars......

Great price! Too bad it is not on the Clubman, if it were.. perhaps this is one of those things not on the Configurator that is possible!

I'm ecstatic about it. I think this has pushed me over the edge to the Mini side. I get to order in the first part of June and this is what I'm building:

CR/B
JCW Appearance package
Black stripes
Premium package
heated seats
clear lights
USB/iPod adapter
Xenon lights

I think it's cool that you can get all the bits to make your car look like a JCW, especially for that price. But, I think it's pretty lame when they start adding things that say JCW on them, like the door sills. It's almost like the people with Coopers that add a JCW shift ****, then start putting JCW stickers and emblems all over their car.

The stupid wheels alone were about $800 on my 2007 R56. 2 grand for the body kit (installed I assume) is a decent price. With some upgraded wheels that's a ganga.

Nice job MINI USA! First, they choose to go with a crappy standard suspension on the "real" factory JCW car, which is totally unmatched to the car's power. And now it seems the "real" JCW car does not even get a factory-installed JCW aero kit option at a decent cost. Keep screwing up MINI USA!

I don't know if it works with on justa.

Seems like a few people don't like this or feel like someone is being a poseur for having a few JCW branded bits. I can do without the JCW door sills and any JCW badging but I do love the body kit and that's why I'm getting the package. But to each his own

I think the body kit is fine, it's just annoying (to me) that the car is going to say "John Cooper Works" on it, when it clearly isn't a JCW.

I can agree with that. I think that the knock against the Mini is that they never really made the JCW that special. Yes it has more power, yes it has more brakes, and other upgrades, but it's not like a BMW M where there's quite a bit of difference -- i.e. seats, body kit, etc...

I think perhaps Mini sees the JCW as not that special to them which is a mistake. It's the thing that keeps me from buying a JCW instead of just the body kit. The JCW just isn't special enough to me to justify the HUGE price gap.

The aero kit for the JCW is going to be $1500 with April production cars, but its not updated in the configurator. I know cause it shows on the sheet for my JCW that I just ordered last weekend. I purposely waited for the April production so I could get that lower price on it.

At first, my MA told me it was $1250, but then that day it showed up as $1500. So for some reason, I think it got raised another $250 from what was originally planned cause I dont' think she just pulled that $1250 number out of the air, but had to have saw it somewhere when she checked on it for me. And now it shows up as $1500.
$1250 woulda made more sense cause at $1500, it means for a mere $500 more, the MCS people are getting a wheels and the other things. So its a pretty good deal for the MCS people as it stands now.

Hey, the M upgrade by BMW costs a LOT more than the $7k upgrade for the factory JCW. Sure, you don't get the aero kit and suspension, but the cost is way way less, and you do get some stuff you can't add aftermarket. The BMW buyer is in a higher price bracket than a Mini buyer.

Mini never really identified what a JCW was. This because JCW parts are available in part or whole to the masses. Mini owners tried to identify what and who they are. It appears that this is not that important to Mini.

I agree, the M package costs more. But if you're speaking in relative terms, the price difference is pretty significant on the mini. We're talking roughly a 30% premium for the JCW over an S. None the less, I still think it's a great deal for the body kit and wheels alone :D

I dont' think its 30% anymore. Cause when I configure a MCS with the same options as my JCW, minus the brakes, it comes out to $29400 for the MCS vs ~34400 on the JCW.

And brakes are $2k, and then you still don't have the power yet. JCW tuning kit is another $2k, and you still down on power. And then you are at about teh same price, and still don't have the beefier tranny and slightly different turbo.

I was just talking base prices. Of course, for 7K the JCW comes with quite a bit more kit than a regular S with no options. By your numbers, there is a 17% difference.
