Going out of Warranty

So my situation is this...

I've thought about doing the extended warranty through MINI or another my dealer uses (and has for years apparently)

So what I wonder from the higher mileage R56's is. How is life post 50k miles.

What are normal things that go? Belts, hoses, turbos, mounts etc? And what kind of money has it been?

Two things, Will you blow through the extended warranty on time, (6 years?) or mileage? I mean, I'm sorry your car had problems, but mine so far had zero issues.

If you are going to do mileage, then probably get the warranty, if time, I'd skip it, and think about trading on a new car with a new car warranty...

Then again, I could afford that, and I have no idea about your situation...

Mine is about to go out of warranty also for time... never had a repair other than routine maintenance untill today - I took it into the Dealer to have the death rattle fixed before it goes off warranty.

Do what you feel is best for your own economic security....

I currently commute 50 miles a day and have 46,0xx miles. The car was titled in aug of 2008. so at 3 years i think i'll be sitting at 55ish. based on that I'd probably be hitting 100 in about 6.
I've looked around at a few other cars but I'm really content in the MINI right now and for a few more years I think.
It's not so much IF i can afford it (though shelling out 3k$ isn't like picking up a ipod or tv for that matter) but instead do you wanna put another 15-17% of the cars value into it IN CASE of a problem. It's really just a gamble.

The other thing I'm wondering though is if you've got a bunch of miles (how many) what's been done since crossing past the 50k mile mark? For example, my c-class prior to the mini at a certain point you could expect a few repairs that are normal at like 75k or so. So what's normal with the mini?

i'm doing my best to have everything taken care of. i've had a few things that they have "repaired" a few times without really fixing it. i'm also fairly seriously thinking of driving to another dealer, maybe chicago to get another set of eyes on the car to make sure it's in order. i just dread the idea of getting out of warranty and something existing biting me in the bum!

Has your car ever had the death rattle? Even if you have only heard it once or twice have Mini look at it - they will replace your entire timing chain, tensioner guide assembly - the whole nine yards - without even batting an eye! I just had mine done this week and I must say it sure runs a lot quieter not only at startup - but in general - and I have peace of mind.

I really think it's a YMMV situation. You know your Mini better than anyone else. Everyone else's experiences don't mean anywhere near as much in the grand scheme of things, imo.

I'm at 106K and I've put about $2500 repair wise into my car...the most expensive repair around 90k for $1000 and that was new bushings. I've done one out of warranty brake/rotor replacement at $400 (it was supposed to be $1000...long story why it wasn't) 2 coolant leaks hose and thermo...$600ish. And new spark plugs...Otherwise any other repairs have been cosmetic or my fault. I don't think that's unreasonable in fact I feel pretty lucky. So for me I'm glad I didn't pay to extend the warranty. You know your car best and you know your limits...For me when the clutch needs replacing is when I plan to get a new car.
