2010 remote radar install help

Hi everyone, I posted this in how to electrical area, but didn't get any traction.

I just bought a Passport QI45 remote radar detector. I'm a V1 user of many years, but now running an R57, I don't want anything in the cabin that will temt someone to cut the top to steal it. (and removing and hanging twice per day is not an option).

So without firing up a this radar detector is better than that, can someone please help on where I can locate the antenna? Looking through the air intake, there is very little room between the radiator and the slats. In fact not enough. The same holds true for the intercooler area. I'm at a loss.

Minimally, can someone please share instructions for taking off the grill and lower bumper cover so I can try and fit it on my own? I'll post back the results for all to use later.

Thanks and cheers!

I can not find a definitive size on the Antenna unit itself. Or install instructions so that make it a little difficult to assist you as well. If you have that info and can pass it on to me there may be some suggestions I can make.

And if there is not enough room there is not much any of us can tell you.

As for instructions on grill removal check the "How To Section" under Mocifications and if there is nothing there then check sites like MINIMANIA, they sell replacement grills and parts and I believe that also have instructions on the web site.

Thanks!

The package looks like this:

The receiver/antenna is... 5.40 L x 3.70 W x 1.05 H (inches for our overseas friends)

I imagine it fits somehow, I have seen folks install the higher end unit that Escort sells, and some people even install V1s in a waterproof case.

My best guess right now is that I can use what 2011 cars have as a brake duct, but do some cutting. Still need to get that front-end off.

I did look through the how to articles here, nothing that would help with the front, thanks for the other suggestion though, I'll hit up those sites.

Anyone else?

Look on Alta's web site and check the instructions for installing the intercooler. It clearly explains how to remove the bumper cover and grills.

air scoop (just cut out a space for the antenna face. Then, slightly bend the sheet metal air deflector (under hood) so the unit can slide in.

You can figure out the rest. Easy.

One piece of advice: Use a some heat barrier material under the unit. It gets hot, just above the turbo, when you shut down. Not sure how much temp the antenna can take, but the turbo puts out a lot.
