squeaking!!!... help

so today i noticed when idling there was a high pitched squeaking kind of chirping when i rev up it goes away... it kind of comes and goes and it is not constant and you can not hear it unless the door is open... i tried to see if it was only when sport mode was on or not but wasnt sure if it was just not doing when not in sport mode or not... car runs great but just wondering if anyone else has experienced such a noise... could be because its been really cold out? ughh i hate when everything isnt perfect...

I get this occasional squeal coming from the engine also. I thought I read somewhere on the forum it could be the water pump or belts.

I am going to set up an appointment with the dealer this week. I will let you know what I find out.

Had this exact problem. It's the water pump.

What's wrong with the water pump? Something that's urgent? Or does it just chirp from time to time. Because I don't hear it all the time?

Damn, MiniMike, you've done broke the thing already!!! Can't give you anything new.

Seriously though, you've hit 1200 miles already, or are you hitting the Sport Button a little early? Our MINI's are about the same age and I'm still just shy of 1000 miles. I have to admit though, I have gone just a bit faster that 100mph and rev'd a bit higher that 4500rpm a time or two. Let us know here or PM me when you figure out the squeak. I've not had any problems yet.

Mine actually has 2000 on it because I had to drive it from Texas to ny. I kept it under 90 the whole way. Average was about 70 on the open road... I don't hear it all the time and tried to see if I could hear it today but couldn't... Hope it's not broken. I'd cry haha I definitely haven't hit close to 100 or over I think the highest is like 80 something... I'f I notice again I'll probably give them a call and take it in...

I'm no mechanic, but I don't think it'll kill the car. It took the dealer a while to finally hear my "chirp." He initially lubed my belts, but then it came back. With a manual, it can be reproduced by putting it in reverse and just barely coming up on the clutch to drop the RPM's. BMW's and MINI's are notorious for faulty water pumps.
