Is "Set speed limit exceeded" warning lamp working?

According to the owner's manual - Indicator and Warning Lamps section -

There is a warning lamp for "set speed limit exceeded". I think that MINI has some sort of setting speed limit feature like what BMW has. However, I read the owner's manual again I don't see how to set it up. Do you have any idea?

Interesting question......I'll be interested to read the answer.

My Audi has this setup also, and it's very easy to engage accidentally - drives me nuts too, because you get a warning chime like in the MINI and then I'm going nutso trying to figure out what the hell that noise is about.

I just use the cruise control - no worries!

On my '10 with nav, it's done through the setup menu. No idea how it's done on a non-nav car.

Ah okay, since ours don't have with nav so we may not use that feature. Thanks.

Mine comes on automatically... I don't have to set it.

Everytime I speed, my wife YELLS "SLOW DOWN... you're going to fast"

Does anyone know how to disable it?

Mark

I have the same problem, but it is actually funny. Before I got the MINI she said I drove to slow. Now she says I drive to fast. The one I love best is "there is a curve. Are you going to slow down". NO.......

- I just burst out laughing in the middle of work!!

Disabling it is really quite simple and but I do believe MINI left it out of the manual. Accelerate to a moderate speed (think 40-50 mph) and, without slowing, suddenly jink to the left. Your wife will not be accepting it, will hit her head on the window and be out cold for the rest of the journey so you can motor in peace. If she wakes up, repeat the procedure.

If you need to wake her up (can't think of a situation why...) I find a large amount of cold water does the trick. Outside the car of course.

I did try the duct tape one first, I have the scratches to prove it.

That's why you have to duct tape her hands first.

Kind of reminds me the first time I took my wife through Deal's Gap. I had to actually pull over so she could puke outside of the car.

She's no fun in the curves....

LMAO Mark! That is the very reason my wife didn't go to MOTD with me.....she saw the videos and said "No way.....I would be throwing up the entire time."

I get a loud sigh when a curve comes up and she feels me accelerate.

I don’t know for sure but the ones I’ve seen on devices and cars always use the GPS signal for using that option which may be why the guys with nav have it.... doesn’t seem right to me but seems like a trend. I’ll ask one of the techs at the dealership this week.

True story... when I had my Corvette, I went to a Corvette Forum meet. About a dozen of us were going out on a “special” ride. (I don’t even want to get into details... scariest ride of my life BUT CAN WE DO IT AGAIN??)

Anyway, knowing my wife wouldn’t go, I offered to drop her off at the mall (we were at the Corvette plant in KY)

We returned after our harrowing ride of 5.5 hours only to find out a few things.

In no particular order....

1) The mall didn’t open for another 1.5 after I dropped her off.

2) There were no more than 5 stores in this mall.

3) I forgot to give her the debit card.

4) She had to walk back to our hotel (far enough not to walk)

5) SHE WAS PISSED....

Like I said, no particular order but that was at least 5-6 years ago and I still hear it to this day.

Oh yeah, one more....

6) It cost me SEVERELY when we returned home... it was a free shopping day.

So, no, the stop, drop and roll doesn’t always work..
