R56 laurel sport edition or jcw?
laurel sport edition or jcw?
should i trade-in my old 2008 mcs (auto/ w/agitronic, sport, premium, cold weather & convenience) for new laurel sport edition (6-speed manual, aero kit, etc..?).
or should i wait until two years later to buy jcw and keep my old mcs?
fyi, we also have 2010 clubman for her wife. why keep my old 2008 mcs cuz either one of us can be in peace of mind to relax without not worry about having scratch on our old 2008 mcs to park in crazy city but we worry more to take good care of our new 2010 clubman and either laurel sport edition or jcw mean less drive on these.
fyi, i do miss using 6-speed manual rather than using auto.
like to hear your opinion?

um, maybe i ask wrong question. is this laurel sport edition high demand for many buyers that i should not miss this one? cuz this only release 100 laurel sport edition each hatch, clubman & convertible.
is it pointless for me to rush buying this laurel sport edition and learn to be patient and to wait for saving $ to invest into jcw next two years wisely because the 208 horsepower is important to have performance better than the look of laurel sport edition only is 172 horsepower?
dealer say that i don't need jcw because mcs with laurel sport edition will put 172 hp to good use in my daily driving thru city and highway unless i drive in countryside and track like dragon to put 208 hp to good use. help me to see your opinion. or is your silent to run buying this laurel sport edition in our same location behind my back before i learn too late that is gone?

I would also wait. I mean the JCW youre getting the real deal. The Laurel, even though it is special edition and all, is just a couple of nicely placed bonnet stripes coupled with nice interior.
If you miss driving stick, you should definitely wait for what the JCW is capable of.

Having said that it is obviously very much a matter of taste. I also bought a Camden rather than a JCW because I liked the package...so you really have to decide how much you're sold on the look I'd say...

Your car is probably gorgeous! KEEP IT! I'd chose a Laurel over the JCW though... only because I like the idea of driving a car that is unique. Although... I live in a city of about 150,000 people and I have THE ONLY blue MCS.
I can't fathom missing driving a manual transmission enough to want to lose money on a trade in. (???) Think of it this way: you are STILL driving the most fun automatic on the road!
if i want jcw then i need to wait for 2012+. cool about a included body kit/spoiler. i appreciate your honest that you are not a fan of the laurel edition.
i am not sure if your question is irony like joke?
in case, you don't know then check out the forum at https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...-to-300-a.html

i agree with what you, augie 05 & 30 camden all just said. i perhaps need harold ramis' help to analyze my soul to be sold by laurel or jcw.
Trade in your "old" 2008? Unless you paid cash for it, or put down A LOT of money at the time of purchase, you will not come out on top of this deal. Cars depreciate the most in the first two years, and even though the MINI retains it's value as a used car more than almost ever other vehicle that I can think of, unless you are sleeping on a pile of money and have nothing better to do with it... I wouldn't swim those waters.

if i want to buy 2012 jcw then i can keep my 2008 mcs without trade-in because i already paid off my 2008 mcs last year and own it. two years give us chance to put money into our bank and make big down to save % interest.
however you are right in another perspective if i trade-in to have 2010 laurel edition without owning 2008 then i still start to worry about scratch, dent or chips on my new 2010 laurel and wife's 2010 clubman without having 2008 mcs and have to make two payments on laurel and clubman. i guess i better keep my 2008 mcs.
many thanks for sharing your opinions with me. fyi how i see pro & con about trade-in
pro to trade-in:
• $1,500 off msrp by end of may
• zero down
• pro-rate both my extend warranty 7 years/100,000 & gap from 2008 mcs to 2010 laurel edition
• $1,087sale tax savings
con to trade-in:
• reduce to $16,725 on 2008 mcs value from high bid $18,000 due to worn out run-flat tires
• i already paid $1,800 for extend maintenance 6 years/100,000 on 2008 mcs and it will not be refunded or transfer so i've to pay $1,800 again for laurel edition
so that is why i better keep mcs to put my extend maintenance to good use rather than waste it on trade-in
since many of you seem not to think laurel edition is not enough "cool" for me to lose $ on trade-in then i better reconsider to wait longer for jcw for two years.
thanks again!

...most of it anyway. There is nothing wrong with any Mini. A base MCS is not a bad choice.
I didn't state the laurel is better, i said that 1 out of 100 is in my opinion
a jcw is just a factory tuned cooper s, you can do that and a lot better with the aftermarket that's out for the coopers can you not?
ps: I wish i had your seats

Don't get me wrong I like the Laurel edition too. I was referring to this comment that you made:
In some ways, yes you can make it better. In other ways you can't unless you start replacing engine components.
These components have been upgraded from what you get on a Cooper S:
More aggressive ECU tuning
Turbo back exhaust system. The exhaust and catalytic converter have been reworked and enlarged to aid the unrestricted flow and reduction in back pressure. Also NO second cat.
Upgraded turbocharger - larger and strengthened twin-scroll turbocharger and exhaust manifold resulting in a pressure increase from 0.9 to 1.3 bar
Upgraded pistons
Upgraded Getrag transmission
Upgraded clutch and throwout bearing
