Is this normal at start-up? Indicators.

Thanks for putting up with my newbie questions. The OM is really ridiculous. Two questions:

1. When I start the car, first the service date stuff comes up. Then next to the trip odo a yellow triangle with ! comes up for a brief second. This is all while the car is "setting up." No warning lights or anything after that. When you start up do you ever see that yellow triange next to your trip odo for a quick second? Is that a "test" of some sort?

2. I might be crazy, but it seems like when playing the iPod through the iPod USB port thing (I have bluetooth/iPod package) my car has weird "memory" problem. I always press RND for random, to make my playlist like a shuffle. Sometimes when I leave and restart the car the RND is checked, and other times its not. Is there a way to make it so RND is always checked?

Thanks!

It only happens to me if I turn on the car 1st without putting on my seat belt.

Just a sanity check, but are you using the same key fab every time?

I needed to re-park my Mini yesterday night, so I grabbed the extra key fob by the door instead of my usual one, and was surprised when the radio was on when I started the car -- since I purposefully had it off the entire day -- plus it was set to a station I never listen to. Then I realized the radio settings were from when a family member last drove the car using the spare key fob. The Mini remembers this kind of stuff (plus other setttings) and associates them to each key fob.

This is normal operation. There is a timing circuit that if you get back in the car before the circuit has timed out then the memory of the RND is saved after the time out the memory of that is lost so it reverts back to standard mode.

You will also find this when playing a CD. If it is in the middle of a song and you go into the store and come back out about 5 minutes later then it resumes from the point in the song it stopped. If you spend more than half an hour in the store the CD will start from the beginning of the song.

You will notice that if you shut the car down with one press of the start/stop button and then get out of the car the radio will play for about 15 minutes until the timing circuits time out.

Again this is normal operation.

I can't say I call forgetting settings like random a feature thought... I'd say it's clearly a bug!
