Should I buy a 2007 Mini Cooper S?

Hello, I have the chance to buy a 2007 Cooper S with 18,000miles. After scanning these boards I noticed a alot of issues with the HPFP, is it pretty much a given that I will be replacing the high pressure fuel pump multiple times? The warranty is only good until march, 2011 and I don't want to buy something that will be a money pit.

Are there any people here with higher mileage Minis that haven't had these sorts of failures? THanks.
Perhaps an extended warranty...I'd plan to keep it until ~80k miles.

I bought my Mini with just over 500 miles on it. The fuel pump had to be replaced @ 13,000 miles due to a high pitched whine. Hasn't happened since. Others have had failure due to using cheap gas. I've used only top tier gas and not a problem. I've got 39,000 on my odometer now.
Good luck!

Get the VIN number for the car and find out from your nearest MINI dealer what has been done to the car.

Besides the HPFP, there is the timing chain tensioner problem. See if it has been replaced with the upgraded version. If not, check it for the "cold start chatter". Read the various threads for a description of the sound and how to check for it.

I've not had a problem with the HPFP, yet. I've only got 13,000 miles on my 2007 MCS.

I think the actual number of HPFP failures seems higher than it was because of the forum, I certainly wouldn't let it stop me from buing an '07 MINI. The cold start chatter problem is something to be concerned over.
