I just thought a 20" long antenna is a bit old fashioned looking on such a cool car.

First Mod for me too. 2" Alta. The OEM thing makes the MINI look like an RC car.

I wish the antenna was on the front of the hardtop like the way it is on the convertible. I think I like it there better... but, it might look silly if you replaced the long antenna (in that position) with a stubby... or maybe not...

Stubby all the way at the back! I have a 4 inch aluminum stubby and I think it looks sex-eh!

I also got tired of the antenna making the "boiiiiing" sound every time it hit my garage door.

I just placed my order for the Alta 2" shorty and can't wait to get it. If you don't count the window tint and clear bra (I don't), this will be first mod. w00t!

Ok...here is a stupid question because I think I know the answer.

The satellite radio I can't imagine uses the same antenna?...the frequency for that has to be ultrahigh and use a different antenna somewhere on the car?

I bought one off of ebay for about $12. It came with multiple size threads for different model years. It was approx 2 - 3" long, a perfect match and looks great. I live in Dallas and DO listen to the AM/FM radio quite a bit. I waited about a year before I did the switch so I know how the OEM sounded before, compared to the stubby afterwards. There was literally no difference between the two. If you live in a mid to big city, I don't think you will have any issues no matter which brand you choose. You can certainly pay more for a major brand (ALTA), but I really don't think there is any difference in performance. Besides, $12 is just flat out cheap!

I put a Craven Speed 2" on my mini, works great. No change from the OEM antenna.

My first (and so far only) mod was a 1.2" stubby I picked up on eBay. Shipped from Germany, so you know it's good!

My very first mod was a stubby like this one but in silver. Got it from this place and I still have it and love it!

Got the Alta stubby a couple days after the purchase. Trying to figure out what to do the old one- it's too big for a swizzle stick!

I was thinking while reading this thread that I need one that's even 5 to 10 inches longer than the stock antenna.

Can anyone answer my question about what antenna the satellite radio uses...and whether this change might effect that at all?

So I purchased the Alta 2" and received it in 2 days (chose the cheapest shipping). Pretty cool. I just installed it. Please excuse the dirtiness, I haven't had a chance to wash the car in over a week.

I drove home from work and tried a few different stations and I didn't notice any difference at all. It's funny because now I stare at other cars' antennas and I'm noticing that a lot of other makes (Toyotas, VWs, etc.) use the exact same antenna that the stock MINI uses. I never noticed that before.

The XM reception has not changed with the addition of the stubby antenna.

I have the stock on mine but I made it into a stubby by taking a pair of wire snips and cutting it at the top of the rubber. I still get the same reception with it and saved $20 on buying a actual stubby. Plus I hardly ever use my radio so really no need for it.

Just checking before I order...your signature line says that you have a 2010 MCS...is that the car that you put the antenna on?

The page that you provided the link to says for Mini 02-08.

The fit is the same on a 2010 as well?
