Im going to kill myself

before i drove a mini cooper, i drove an '09 Chevrolet silverado 1500 extended cab and a 6 foot bed, 5.3 liter V8, custom exhaust built for a loud, but deep growl, 9 inch lift, and mud tires. i got 14 miles to the gallon, but i loved my truck.

i traded him in on an '09 mini cooper, with a little bitty engine, little bitty wheels, little bitty ground clearance. and i do not regret it one single bit. its fast , i get like 36 mpg, its fast, it handles like a dream, its fast, no one ever asks me to move crap for them, did i mention the speed? i dont even notice.

so im an aggressive driver, always have been. i believe you cannot be timid behind the wheel. so in the truck, i had some size and just barreled my way through traffic.(never got in an accident). in the mini i kinda do the same thing and one of the smaller cars on the road, luckily this thing is so responsive you can just dart away like you were never their. it corners so well, people are staring at me, its just too fun to drive it!!!!!!!!

In the words of MMO players everywhere,

"When you leave, can I have your stuff?"

Anyway, glad to hear a former truck driver converted over by go-kart handling, now if we could just convince all the soccer moms and other truck drivin' mustachio'd dudes.

Yeah pepperwhite09 I agree with your feeling, how quick these little cars can get up to xxx speed is incredible, and they like it once they get there. My 94 Camaro would go just as fast, but it seemed harder to get there for some reason. I'm generally the first away from a traffic light and am going 60 before I know it. FUN!

Mini is very confident inspiring and ultra responsive. I always feel like part of my Mini at any speed, not just a passenger behind the steering wheel.

When the car is at or near its limits, its calm confident demeanor will change significantly. Hyde will turn into a Jekyll so have fun prudently.

If you like it on the road, you'll love it on the track, where you can't get any speeding tickets.

A quote from David Feherty's book "A nasty bit of rough" where the main character is borrowing a Mini "It goes from 0 to oh sh??t" in 3 seconds"

You should try it sometime. I can help you change your wheels if you need assistance. It's more addicting than cocaine, from what I hear.

I'm working on getting back into a Mini as we speak. I had an 07' and have missed it every day. Driving an 08' Accord Coupe now and it's not fun to drive one bit. Definitely comfortable, but nothing beats a Mini. Hopefully be back in one by Summertime.

All so true... My previous vehicle was an '07 Hummer H3, not quite as big as the others but still a beast in comparison. And I don't miss it at all.

The MINI is opposite in every way: SMALL, FAST, QUICK, NIMBLE, ECONOMICAL... Oh, yeah, and SO FUN TO DRIVE!

I'm still waiting for my first speeding ticket (knock-on-wood)

I'm with ya on "FAST"

My last car was a 98 C5 Corvette and I did not think I would ever say so "but" My 2009 JCW is faster from about 40mph on up and handles a lot better.I like driving it better and it is way more comfortable. It is just plain FUN.

Ya know, I was determined to get into a new ride, and I'd been lusting after the 2010 Camaro for the last 18 months or so, pretty much had my heart set on it, even though I'd driven a MINI and loved it the pony car's sex appeal weighed heavily. First chance I got I drove an RS with the V6/6-spd manual, then went straight away and drove a MINI S.

There simply was no contest.

I was sad, actually, that the Camaro didn't fare better. It just didn't have that seat-of-your-pants WHEEEEEEEE factor that the MINI possesses in spades, that maneuverability, that get you there NOW punch.

Quite pleased with my decision.

Glad to see yours is treating you right. They are 1.35 tons of fun.

Peace and MINIs

Me

When I purchased my Clubman, I kept my 2005 F150 SCREW, I needed something to haul the stuff that the MINI won't - mulch, and other yard stuff. The SCREW doesn't get near as many miles these days - probably 2x to work and weekend yard hauling (got to be big when I go to Lowes).
I love the handling of the Clubman, and the Go Cart responsiveness. Yes she is fast, and she gets great mileage, and that is important as the Gas Companies have started the "slow creep" on the gas prices (basically to see how much we tolerate before we scream!).

only thing that bugs me about my mini is the throttle isn't instantaneous. my '98 eclipse would blip to about 2500 with a touch of the gas. such a blip on my mini gets to 1250. buut... the mini doesn't feel like I'm going to fall apart going around corners (body/frame was starting to rust out, made worse by my corner speeds) and I can open the trunk from the outside and don't have to worry about the key not turning in the lock... and it ran on 89 octane (87 caused too much knocking)

so... I went from a n/a 2.0L that would scream at 4500+ (272 cams, yummy) all the way to rev limiter to a s/c 1.6L that screams in a different way but produces about the same HP overall, so eh. Oh, and instead of a random misfire/flooded backfire echoing from the intake, I have ECU programmed spark adjustments to backfire, hehe.

I ask this of every truck -> mini convertist: did you take home your mini in the back of your truck?

I brought home 8 bags of Scotts Turf Builder, , 200lbs of lawn fertilizer, and 20 squares of St. Augustine sod in mine last week.

Not too bad. I guess its a kinda Mini Truck.

Dropped my Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited for my MINI. Best decision I ever made. ;D

Although I do miss being able to drive over curbs to get out of parking spots when people thought it was nice to try to trap me in... and being able to offroad...
