Power train extended warranty

I did a search and was surprised it hasn't been covered. I saw the maintenance warranty but according to my dealer there are two separate ones.

I don't care about the maintenance as I can handle all of that. I was thinking the power train might be worth it. Our dealer wants $1800 to extend for another three years. Ours is a 2007 Copper S. The only issues we had were minor like the sunroof and initial electrical.

What's the general opinion around here on these warrantees? Is it worth it? I know the previous models had horrendous tranny problems but I think that's been solved with the new trans. We went to a MINI seminar and the mechanic said the new trans are completely different. He said getting a drive train extension would be good. Its not cheap which is why I wondered how all of you are dealing with it.

Is it possible for you to post this $1,800 3 yr extended warranty, or provide a link so that I can review it, and see if it makes sense for me.
Thanks

Like any insurance, you'd be betting on needing the coverage. We're a two-cooper family. We declined the opportunity to purchase this sort of coverage.

I agree with posting a copy. I've heard of the extended maintenance plan that's a ripoff, but i'd like to see the powertrain warranty.

I'll have to call the dealer on Monday and ask they send me a copy. I was told its the same drive train warranty that comes with the car. You make an excellent point however. I figured it was engine, trans, axle, etc.

Im taking my car in on Monday for some more issues, and I too am interested in extended power train warranty. I will ask my SA about it maybe I can get a printout. I am stuck with the car and so I cant just trade it in. Which means I have to cover my a** for the next couple years since I have an 07.

Ok all I got was a price for the six year/100,000mile extension which is 3,040.00 In Maryland. This info was passed to me by the cashier I never got to see my SA. But from what it looks like when you buy the extended its counted as part of the original warranty. This means that say your current warranty of 4 years/50,000 ends 5/29/2011 well if you buy the XL package it will cover you till 5/29/2013. This means they give you really only two years more from the start of your original warranty. This is how it was written to me on a post-it that came posted on the warranty brochure. Now I hope this is written wrong because for two more years of coverage they charge 3,040 and a so called $50.00 copay per repair. I will have to talk to my SA directly to make sure this is right.

"New trans?" Are U referring to the dropping of the CVT for the Aisin 6-speed for the base Coopers starting in 07??

OP if you have an automatic then U should be in good shape XW-wise. However, if U have a manual, clutches and flywheels are considered wear items and not covered, at least in the D/T extended warranties my dealer offers through GE. AAMOF, I 've never seen a clutch covered in any XW.

I hear the extended maintenance plan will cover 1 clutch... Though for the prices they change I'd probably go aftermarket.

Sorry for the delay in updating. The deadline is closing and finally the dealership finance department got back to me. Apparently, my SA has nothing to do with it.

They are pushing for a service/maintenance program by a 3rd party. They're a huge dealership and claim to be the #1 in MINI sales for whatever that's worth.

Their recommendation is this company http://www.fidelitywarrantyservices.com/#

They also are pushing for the Platinum Service which is way too costly. I'll be pouring over it this week but wanted to give people the heads up since many of our warranties are expiring.

Any comments or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Here's a pdf showing the coverage per plan.

I have no experience in getting extended warrantees. Any helpful suggestions is welcomed. At first I figured power train is enough. This is my wife's car and I can do oil changes, brakes and misc. No way major power train.

Of course she wants to just be able to go to the dealer, drop it off, get the paid for rental car and leave. Our budget doesn't allow to extend that privilege .

I have been searching for a thread like this...thanks for starting one up Nui!

I have been in contact with Morristown Mini and they quoted me $3,040 for 7 years, 100K miles. I'm not sure if paying three grand up front is worth it. I know you are essentially purchasing an insurance policy. I definitely think the extended maintenance program is a rip off but I would like to get some viewpoints on this extended powertrain warranty...

Thanks guys!

Is that price just for power train? It would be nice if this thread can sort it out. I forgot to mentioned the dealership said they would provide 20% off the rates listed on that website. The prices seem steep to me yet the dealer said their cheaper than MINI. Maybe we can all figure out the truth in that statement.

Yes, that price is for the power train warranty. The extended maintenance is separate and that would cost $1,500.

I've been doing more research and talking to independent mechanics. The conclusion is that as many stated here dealers get their markup just selling the warrantees. Consumer Reports and other sources say to be cautious but shop around. Some insurance companies offer extended warrantees, so maybe yours does. I'll check with mine (State Farm).

There also some caveats: Make sure the warrantee allows you to take the car where ever you want not just the dealer. Don't look for the cheapest place as they probably won't pay out which is how they're so cheap.

Also I think its a good idea if they're highly rated by the BBB, etc...

I found this place online that looks pretty good. Got about a month to get it sussed out properly. The pricing is half of what you were quoted.

My insurance company does not have repair options. I have purchased a 5/60K extended warranty plan. It starts today. The plan has a $100 deductible. Cost was $4,080. You can read my full writeup here: http://www.hrmini.com/component/opti.../topic,3704.0/.

I got quoted about $1800 for a 6/100K warranty from http://www.paragonmotorclub.com/warranty/ which is a highly rated BBB company.

Sorry, but not even close to being worth the paper it's written on....

IF you have a problem down the road, will the company still be in business? Lots aren't...
