Remove Light housing on R56
Hey guys, I've been searching the forums for a while and I just can't seem to find anything on removing the housing for the front fog light. I dropped an LED bulb in a small .5" hole into the housing and I can't get the thing out.
How hard is it to remove the housing for the parking light? Is there a write-up on removing the housing? If so, how is it done? Here's a pic, and thanks in advance for any help you guys might have for me:

The fogs come off from the back side of the bumper cover. You would need to remove the bumper to take the fogs completely out. There are three screws that hold it in, I think they are torx screws. If you have rubber arms, you may be able to remove them without taking the bumber cover off.
I also want to know what bulb you have in your fogs, I have Zenons and the fogs look as yellow as BIG BIRD when they are on.

Thanks slimjim, I figured youd need to remove the bumper to get to them, blah. I spent about an hour trying to use 3m dbl sided sticky tape and a screwdriver to fish it out... too cold though so wouldn't stick.
I had konstantinos post for me since I wasn't gonna be by the computer for a while.
I may try to put my shopvac up to the hole and see if it can create enough of a pressure difference to suck it out...
To answer your questions, its a simple w5w LED bulb you can get on ebay for ~2$. The only catch is if you don't want the bulb out warning you have to wire in a resistor in parallel to trick the computer into the circuit drawing enough current (since the LEd itself won't be enough).
I have the resistors, but havent gotten around to putting them in yet, as I don't care much about the 2 second flash of "bulb out" when i start the car, it goes away after that, so not a big deal for now. I will get to it when its warmer.

yeeeeea..... common problem-- water dripping from headlight/hood gets to the screw at the btm outside corner of the headlight... and basically locks it up.. in other words, when you try to turn that bolt now, it spins with the socket holding it... since the socket is only glued to the plastic around it.. terrible design. i asked the dealer and they said its very common and almost anytime they work on headlights they end up drilling out the bolt...!
And since I've done the joey mod, they said since I've taken the screw out they aren't liable to fix it now. blah.
just so happens to only be the passenger side w/ this problem so far, and thats the side the LED is dropped into =\ lol
Once i get into a warmer area (my garage at home [at school now and park outside my condo]) i will be able to more effectively use tape and even take the wheel off to get more room to get in there. this is if the shopvac idea fails...

You can actually access the fog light housings through the wheel wells- that's how I pulled both of mine out. You're lucky that you're only trying to get into the passenger side, as the washer fluid reservoir makes getting at the driver's side light in this manner considerably more challenging (and definitely requires the headlight to be removed).
Long story short, remove or turn your passenger front wheel, remove the liner and take a look in there- you should be able to plainly see how to get to the 3 bolts that hold the fog light in.
Separately, I actually had this exact same problem (lost an LED wedge bulb in the city-light housing and couldn't get it out). I wound up buying a long, large pair of tweezers on eBay and they did the trick, allowing me to reach into the housing and clamp the thing out. You could also consider forceps.
Good luck!

Got it out! haha, was in the garage where it was much warmer (while fighting a cold now, ugh)... and the screwdriver +tape method failed again. then i found a piece of wire-tie (like those on a bread bag), but much longer. so i thought i'd tie it in a circle at the end and see if i can fish it out. 2 minutes later i got it out. hahaha ughhhhhh. anyways, these LEDs i've replaced it with are SO much brighter, they can actually function as a pathway lighting at night!
