Yeah, I still don't know... you say he guessed, he said he hooked it up to the computer.

I was always under the impression that the dealerships could tell, that's why some people like piggyback computers.

If the dealership isn't capable of telling, why would anyone subject themselves to the hassles that Alta's unichip was causing is beyond me.

Regardless, I don't really care.... in fact, it's cool that I got my warranty back but again, it's not that big of a deal. (I've got 17K+ miles on my car in 6-7 months, at that rate, I've only got another year and some left anyways)

It was more of a "win" for me to get the warranty back because of a matter of principle.

Like I said, I've been running your tune for over 12K miles and never had so much as a hiccup. Tune schmune, they were just looking for an easy way out.

The Dealer Must be borderline on EPR , Service Mgrs and Service Writers are paid less on Warranty Claims compaired to Customerpay rate .

My Guess is the aftermarket downpipe turned on the dealers radar to other mods. Could they see the tune with a scanner maybe maybe not , I think that when they saw smoke they saw Fire and looked to sell a Customer pay job at Flatrate booktime instead at performing warranty repair at factory rate .

As a Dealer I have had Warranty Claims bounced back or outright denied by the Factory then incurred a chargeback on my parts statment for a repair that was performed under warranty guidlines.

Anytime a shop can Minimize exposure to a Warranty Chargeback it will !

What? Jan, I'm sure you know as well as I that any dyno can skew numbers: Mustang, DynoJet, Daynapac, it's easily done. Moreover, all of the major dyno manufacturers produce products that can be effective tuning tools. None of the major dyno manufacturers produce effective bragging tools, becaues the numbers can be easily manipulated. Don't try to discredit Mustang in a horsepower argument.

That having been said, There's no reason to believe that Jan didn't get 22 ft/lbs of torque from an R56. The challenges of dynoing R56s aside, that's a good, and not unrealistic number. Here are some dyno results from work GIAC did on a R56 where they made 20 ft/lbs with no other mods (and more with an intercooler):

The R56s have a hidden internal tamper code (as do all newer BMW products) that is designed to tell a dealership whether the car has ben chipped. Piggybacks are actually more likely to trip the code than flash-to-eprom tunes, because good flash tuners can find and erase the code.

Eric,
you know that wasn't pointed at you.......

but the fact remains there are people out there that manipulate the mustangs........there were 40hp gains coming from cars that made 150whp with just a tune..............that's almost 27% gain
no dyno sheets were ever given ...............hmmmmmmmmmm

True. And there are people that manipulate DynoJets and Dynapacs. It comes down to professional integrity not dyno brand.

I really don't think Jan's comment was directed at you Eric. I'm sure it was someone else.

I know that Macedo Motorsports did not manipulate the dyno for the orlando tune party.
Macedo was worried that the Coopers would not have enough power to turn the rollers on his Dyno .The car Larry took off the rollers before the RMW tune party was kicking out 700+whp with low boost and a very safe tune.(correcting some very well known huge household name tuners tune)

Macedo thinks 300ish flywheel hp/tq and 270ish whp/wtq can be done for little expense .(this guy should know because anything under 600 whp is a joke to him)Between Macedo and Jan I believe My JCW is in safe hands

Head work ,valves, mild cams and mild turbo upgrade should do the trick.

9 pounds per whp will be entertaining
