Questions...

I have a 2009 R56 MCS with 6spd manual. 4000miles. 29.3 mpg. daily routine... 4 miles back and forth from school in 35-45 mph zone. occasionally 100-150 mile run on slightly twisties... (texas... houston area... hurray...)

now to the questions.
  1. Is it possible/even legal to import the JCW recaro seats from Europe and install them on my US car? or is that just a danger to everyone and S.W.A.T. will blow up my garage and impound my car and sell it back to me?
  2. DTC... I understand from my dealer that I turn on the DTC by holding down the DTC button till the DTC light lights up...
  3. with the Sport package, do I get the Electronic form of a lsd(one that uses the brakes for better cornering traction)? don't remember the name for it...
  4. with run flats what are we looking at when 0-60 time flashes in my mind? (best I had so far is 8 sec, recorded by Dynolicous and was calibrated)

1.) You can get them, but it's hard to. And there's some extra electronic stuff needed to make sure the passenger air bag still works.
4.) 8 seconds with an S? Eeek I'm pretty sure I get about that with my MC.

1- Yes it is legal, good luck finding them. My cousin works in England often so I have him on the hunt at we speak.. Should be about $2k shipped.
2-just push it and a yellow light on the dash should show up, meaning it is turned off.
3- DTC is the only traction control you have on the car which measures the pitch and yaw of the car and applies the brakes according to the cars position. It is no was is the same thing as an LSD and does not help you gain traction for take offs
4-8 seconds blows, should be about a second quicker, keep us posted.

as for the seats... wouldn't contacting JCW/MINI about acquiring a set be easier?

Found the pdf for mini coopers 2009 models... DTC includes EDLC.. just need to turn it all off... what I dont get is people says that you just need to push the button to turn off DSC... now I have to hold it down for 3 secs before DTC comes on, and then another 3 secs for DSC off.... is then everything off?

IIRC, holding down the DTC button will turn off everything except EDLC. There may be steps where you can turn off ASC without turning off DSC. Is there a reason you want to turn off DSC?

I was reading that holding down the DTC buttons for 6 secs till it shows everything is turned off will enable the EDLC...

My understanding is MINI does not intend have the JCW Recaro seats sold in the U.S. The GP's sold in the U.S. had different seats as well. I would guess it has something to do with the side airbags.

It would be nice if BMW/MINI would let the owner decide on the seats. I guess they are afraid of lawsuits, in the case of side impact crashes.
