Newbie quick question...205 40 17

to save the $40 per tire price...can i run 205 - 40 - 17s for the winter? Blizzaks are much cheaper with the 40 sidewall.

Any help is appreciated.

Ya they would work but it will be a mad uncomfortable ride. I would at least stick with 215 or 225s if you are going to reduce the sidewall.

Try a 215/45r17.

205/40-17 is about an inch smaller in dia. than 205/45-17. Do you really want to lower your clearnce by 1/2" for winter? Also, the 1/2 reduction in sidewall height will make your wheels more vulnerable, and the ride harsher. It could end up being an expensive economy.
