DTC/ELSD left off my build, should I reorder?

DTC was on my build sheet that i gave to my MA, but never made it on to the official build. My MA is offering $500 off the car or I can reorder. The car is currently shipping across the atlantic, so I'd have wait another 3 weeks. I live in the DC metro area and we dont get a whole lot of snow, but I may be moving out west and thought the DTC and ELSD would be great for wintery conditions.

Should I reorder? How much does the system really do?

Thanks

I regret not getting limited slip, but I turn DTC off when I get in the car anyway. I don't like stability control and I do wish I had opted out of that for LSD and cruise.
This is my opinion; reorder because in a year the three weeks wont mean anything to you, nor will $500. Make sure you wont look back and say "Damn, I could have LSD if I waited three weeks"

I have an '07 so I have no experience with the Electronic Limited Slip Differential (I have mechanical LSD) but..... These are safety and performance options. If you are going to take advantage of the MINI's handling, I'd reorder in a heartbeat.

Re-order and have them discount it $500 for your inconvenience!

I've never used the system, so take this with a grain of salt, but I don't have DSC nor a mechanical LSD and I've never felt the need for it. If you are desperate for shaving a tenth of your lap time, maybe... but for street driving, I don't see much need for it. With your car coming with DSC anyway, I don't think there will be any improvement in winter conditions with DTC. Just my opinion...

BTW, is the 500 off just discounting the 500 dollar option that isn't on the car, or is it an additional 500 off on top of removing the 500 dollar option? Cause I would ask a little more off for inconvenience just because you can... (if they are just removing the 500 dollar option)

its a $250 option, so he offered $500 off on top of the option missing.

I don't know that I'd notice the difference if I didn't have LSD, but I like to know its there. I'd wait another 3 weeks, on this side of the country it'd be about a 6 week wait, I might be more annoyed, but I do like to get the MINI exactly as I want it.

If I ordered a car and it was NOT to my specs. I'd re-order in a heartbeat. It is what you wanted in the first place don't start second guessing things now...you'll do ALOT of that though if you don't re-order.

I would reorder it. I like my LSD much more and would dearly miss not having something to help manage the torque steer.

By the way DTC is a $500 option, not $250.

I think the DTC is worth waiting for. Mine easily spins the front tires in the rain and the DTC steps in quickly to get everything going forward. I think it would be even more valuable in the snow, but mine has not seen snow yet. Plus you get the EDLC which does a pretty good job emulating a LSD when you turn off the nanny stuff.

Depends how you drive. I'm a spirited driver and I really, really like having LSD. No more spinning a wheel accelerating out of tight corners!

After having a loaner MCSa with no DTC or LSD, I would really suggest reordering.

This thread got me thinking about the DTC. I played around with it today, turning the DTC/DSC completely off, leaving only the EDLC (hold button down for 3~4 seconds until get the warning light). I guess this is kind of like a "track mode". Then I went to find some curves. I have to say, for a car that does not have LSD, almost all inner wheel spin was gone. The steering felt much smoother, minus the normal tire spin/brake/torque steer/spin/brake/etc. that you normally feel thru the steering when breaking traction in the corners. As an added benefit, when I hit a couple of corners at high speed, I was able to enjoy some trail-brake oversteer. Also, the engine seemed to respond better.

Overall, I am glad my car has this though I have not used it much.

Grippy tires fix that pretty well. I think it's funny that a lot of people see an LSD as an end-all-be-all solution but for the longest time a sports car company like Lotus never offered an LSD on their cars.

I find it hard to believe that MINI couldn't reprogram your computer at the port or dealer. Since there aren't any mechanical parts to make DTC/ELSD work.

It isn't only software, there is also a button that needs changed.

my first order didn't have xenon lights -- I reordered and am really glad I did. It would have bugged the crap out of me.

Reorder and be patient (it's tough !) .
