Geez...I have never bought ANY extended warranty before but decided to buy one from irvine bmw/mini n CA today when I bought my new cooper S.

Well, I paid $2280 after he knocked it down from $2695.

Oh well, I hope I will need it from 3rd to 6 years.

Oh you'll need it, probably made a wise choice if you're keeping the car that long.

I think I got 6 / 100 maintenance for $1395 - a brake job alone is nearly $900 so...

If you just bought it today I believe you have several days to cancel it you are not sure about it. Why pay for 6 when you are already covered for 3? If you still want it you can buy a maintenance plan anytime before your factory plan expires. If they ask why you want to cancel tell them you are getting for $1300 from another dealer watch them match the price. $900 for a break job??? Thats for suckas!!

I would NOT pay that much. Like someone mentioned, you can buy these anytime before your original 3 years expires (they probably don't want you to know that). I would cancel it and if you decide to keep the car in 3 years, you can purchase it at that point.

all of the above is true - keep in mind the longer you wait to purchase it, the more $ it is going to cost! good luck with your decision!

the amount of the extended warranty is added to the cost of my car. if i cancel, do they have to redo my finance paper or do they just give me back the credit on my card?

Your payments stay the same but you get a refund for the amount you paid. Also, I don't think brake jobs are covered under warranty work, that's considered normal wear and tear.

WHAT??????? $$$2280.00

I paid $1,500.00 for my extended maintenence warrenty. I see some people paid $1,395.00
$2280.00 is just plain "WRONG"
If I were you I would call Mini USA and file a complaint. Ain't no way that warrenty would ever cost $2,695.00 and $2,280.00 is still out of line.

k3v1n - it also covers brakes and rotors and all associated labor / air filter / inside cabin filter and probably more that I'm forgetting.

IRC, I thought the maintenance plans were non-negotiable and fixed price. I know the different maintenance plans can be configured for different years and mileage. For the OP's $2280, perhaps it is 6 years / 150,000 miles? idk?

WOW $2,200 for maintenance better find a mountain and start riding your brakes all the way down each day. I would see if you can get some of your money back.

This has been rehashed severql times in other threads.

The extended maintenace program covers all wear items such as brakes, clutch wiper blades, fluids, oil changes etc. The only items not covered are tires'wheels. I paid 1700 for it. I totaled out what I anticipated would be the maint. costs over the years I'll have it beyond the 'free' maint. I will break even or lose a little. But, when it is time to do it it will already be paid for and not as painful out of pcoket. Yes, i realize it is cheaper to do the brakes yourself and DIY oil changes. I don't have the skills, tools, location or inclination to do either. For me it was worth the peace of mind.

I went for it. Don't recall what I paid, but think it was something like $1600. I was told that there was a $1,700 service shortly after the MIMI free maintenance period ends. It's been more than two years, so my recollection is a little fuzzy.

If you do want to renegotiate it try to cancel it. They will probably do something from keeping you from canceling it all together.

Well lets see. If you are not very hands on the it was an awesome idea. Most people today don't realize how much money they can save by doing the work themselves. Diagnostic work is about the hardest(thats figuring how whats wrong). But with my last car I couldn't wait till the warranty was up so I couold start doing work without being hassled by the stealership. I have already gotten hassled by the MINI dealership. But I don't know how well MINIs hold up over the long run but, from the little work I have done on mine they really aren't to hard to work on and stuff doesn't break like Nissan does (ie bolts and screws)

The salesperson usually gets 50% of the selling orice as a commission. I paid 800.00 for a 1- year extended maint. plan- I fell for the brake job line. My brakes were no where near ready for replacement at the end of the fourth year, so I really paid $800.00 for an oil change. I've learned my lesson.

$2500 or $2300 for a warranty doesn't make sense to me. You'd have to have $2500 in repair needed to just break even within the 3-6 year period of ownership. That's a small window to have a huge amount of repairs needed.
The way I look at it is, I'd rather keep $2500 in the bank, should I need to spend that money on repairs I am not restricted by the 3 year window.

Yeah $2500 is way to much... but @ $1300 i would consider it. Does it definitely cover a new clutch?

$1300 is more reasonable, yet i'd only get it if it covered EVERYTHING no questions asked. -otherwise it'll probably only cover the things that don't break i.e. engine case, trans case, etc... believe me, they've created this to work in their favor. They've ran all the numbers and checked all the odds. It's a $$ maker for them.

I too was ripped off by Irvine Mini on the service plan about a year ago. I absolutely refused to buy it because the cost was so high and I personally believe these types of plans exist only for the benefit of the person selling it. After multiple refusals he dropped the price down (but not to $1395) and I caved in.

Only time will tell if we get our money's worth
