Watch out for engine lock, sucking in water up the air intake. Pretty high to be fording streams.

I believe it is generally accepted that as long as your rim is visible over the war level and your intake is above that water you are safe. That being said...it is not recommended and avoid such puddles, rivers, ponds, and other bodies of water that would MINI wouldn't like.

I hit about 3 inches of water flowing over the road. It was late at night right after a thunderstorm had passed over. It wasn't raining on me, but the road was black and the water was invisable. I was clocking along at 60 mph, no worries.
Then I was water skiing. I was able to keep the MINI straight and it deaccelerated rapidly. I never touched the brake, just pushed in the clutch and lifted off the gas.
I had another 60 miles to go, everything ran and sounded OK. I did a quick walk around and then got back on the road.
The next day I noticed the wheel arches in front had been blown off the little plastic body mounts. Replaced the body mounts and motored on.

MINI makes a poor Wave Runner!

On Sunday the water in parts of my neighborhood were up to the bumper on my dad's pickup. Probably would have been to the top of the grille on my MINI. Good thing I didn't have to drive at all that day!

I've heard lots of 1st gen hydrolock nightmares so I'm very careful with standing water. I usually pull over if it looks deep and eyeball someone else going through first. Worst this year- in the Meadowlands swamp between Jersey City and North Arlington- was under a foot, probably much less, it always looks deep when the trucks get waves going in it.

I made it through fine, but I'm always wary and make sure no idiot in front of me can stop and make me park in a huge puddle.
