R56 Automatic Locking
Automatic Locking
On page 23 of the owner's manual, it describes how to change the automatic lock settings to either;
- (Clock Image) on
- (Right Arrow Image) on
- (Clock Image) and (Right Arrow Image)
- off
- At what speed does the car lock itself?
- How long do you have to be away from the car for it to lock itself with the (Clock Image) set to on?
I think it's less than 10mph, I'll be leaving in a bit so I can check for you.
Not even 10mph, more like 5mph. I don't even get to the Stop Sign one house away. And the manual says is..."The central locking system automatically locks the vehicle after some time if no door has been opened, or as soon as you drive off." I had it out looking for an issue with the system NOT telling me that a door is open...not good!!
Guess I'll be making a call to the Dealer on Monday!!

Looks like RJKimbell already answered the first question.
As it turns out, the clock image just means the MINI will lock itself in the event you (accidentally) hit the unlock button and never open the door. After I found out that was the function, time didn't seem all that important to me.

In my previous car ('98 VW GTI VR6, traded in on the MINI), if you unlocked the doors remotely, you had 30 seconds to open a door before the system locked up again automatically. Sounds to me like the MINI setup is similar. I guess I don't have the auto locks...

Somewhat related. Does anybody know what the specifics are on the car locking itself after the keys are out of the ignition and the driver leaves the car (WITHOUT the convenience package)?
I know my car locks itself. I just don't know how long it takes and the specifics

I'm actually wondering about this too. I could swear that when I first got my Clubman, that I had it setup to lock automatically after I walked away from the car. Now I can't seem to get it to do that anymore.
