Sunroof problem

Does anybody else have this problem with their sunroof opening? Its when it is on a very hot day like a 90 + degree day here and want to get the heat out of the interior cabin as fast as possible. So i roll down the windows and try to open the sunroof. When the sunroof starts to open it closes shut again! and keeps on doing it until i have to push on it a little bit to open up and slide back . Does anybody else have this?

It's a VERY common problem with the sunroof. I know it's not just MINIs though. My old car did it, and my friend's Benz does it too.

I'm not sure if MINI will do anything about it though, but there's definitely already a thread on here about it.

Please use the search button. There are literally dozens of threads regarding the sunroof issue. In fact before you post a new thread this site gives you a list of matching topics that most likely have the answers you are looking for.

I have the same problem too, but once you drive it @30+mph for a few minutes it'll be back in working order. It's a bit annoying but I get used to it.

I was at the dealership three days ago picking up my new coop and one of the tech's was fixing the sunroof on an 07. I was somehow allowed in the back area so i asked him about it.

He told me that the first thing they do is apply a special spray-on lube that is made for this very purpose. It was super thick goo that was a crazy viscous material. I sprayed a squirt on my fingers and it took me 10 min and a pile of soap to get it off. Good stuff. That is their first line of defense. If it happens again, he pointed out, that they will reapply the spray. If it happens a third time, replacement of the moving parts is considered.

I had the same problem, took it in for service and they adjusted and lubricated the sunroof and it works perfectly now. I believe the adjustment was on the rear section of the sunroof, I noticed before the adjustment that the rear sectioin did not set flush with the roof it was actually a little lower, now its even with the roof and works every time even in the South CArolina heat.

So it can be fixed......

I have this issue all the time. I just push against the sunroof pane while opening it and the problem is fixed. All that is happening is that the gaskets are sticking together. At my next service, I will ask them to look into it.

This is a known issue in the Puma system, as there is a bulletin regarding this very flaw in the sunroofs of not only the Cooper, but the Clubman as well.

The fix, however, is different from dealer to dealer. At Ralph Schomp MINI in Littleton, CO, they blew it off, saying they know there's an issue, but they will not take a look at it as they don't know how to fix it, and told me to wait for a call from them (who knows when). Now, granted, Schomp MINI is one of the worst dealerships I have ever been to, so this is par for the course. BUT, there's hope for you! If you talk to others on this very forum, some of their dealers have taken the MINIs in and worked on the track system in the sunroof and they have actually fixed the issue!

Get your MINI into the service center and demand a fix. I think that's the best bet to get the "really hot weather that renders the sunroof broken" ... problem fixed.

Gluck!

ps
Sorry for all the people who scold you for asking questions vs using the search function. Take their attitude with a grain of salt, as most of us MINI owners love to help! They are not the norm, hell, they probably yell at people who wave to other MINIs shouting "don't you know that's been done before!!!"
