Tell me about it, I got a ticket on 270 today from a MD State Trooper for 70 in a 55; I guess the MINI looked like a good car to pullover out of the crowd; of course MD and VA share all that type of information so I should be expecting some points on the license in a few months a guess.

I know this is old but if the kid hasn't done a few things hes gonna get fried so I will chime in.

A. Tell your COC if I was your LPO and you tried to hide charges you would get a report chit and that will put your clearance at risk.

B. an E-7 or above has to go with you to court so again tell your COC.

C. Suck it up you were wrong you got busted man up and take your medicine. Everyone says get a lawyer you can look into it but this is a federal ticket and if one of my guys got the ticket I would be looking very closely to how he handled it, did he accept he made a mistake and take his punishment or did he try to weasel out of it.

Remember Honor Courage and Commitment.

Lastly if its all over how did it go?

ok well then you will be fine if your command is letting an E-5 go they aren't placing a priority on it. That being said there isn't much forgiveness in federal traffic court hopefully you can get it reduced but be prepared for it to not be reduced. You obviously care about doing the right thing and staying in so good luck. I have known several high ranking enlisted and officers in my carrer and 95% had much larger issues in thier past than a traffic ticket you will be fine now study for the E-5 exam lol.

I also had a ticket in VA last month, same as a friend. My friend called a lawyer, he advised to just pay the ticket. 4 points in VA is not that bad.
Both cases were under 20 mph, so no reckless driving.

It's just a matter of the economy, they need to get $$$ from somewhere. Sucks though... I'm 35 and it's my 1st ticket.

Yeah everyone has issues regarding speeding tickets. I think their radar is never correct and always 3 to 5 points on higher range. My cousin who used to work for a Los Angeles DUI attorney had told me about this once as it’s not that easy to contradict their reading.

Did you notice that this is a 9 year old thread? The speeding laws in VA are pretty widely known anyway. 1 MPH over can get you pulled over. Besides, there are signs posting pertinent information along streets and highways and on board indicators confirming adherence to that information. I don't see a problem except that which is self inflicted.

and given that the speedo on a MINI is generally seen to read nearly 5mph higher than actual (easy to verify with a GPS)

and most police will ignore the first 5 mph over (got this from multiple local guys ... quite a few judges will toss less than 5 mph over unless there's something else going on ... in FL anyway)

so this means you need to be more than 10 over by the car's info ....

and yea ... a resurrection .....

Yeah the speedo reads fast on Minis. I remember someone posting that's because in Europe the car manufacturer gets fined big time if the gubment determines their speedos are off on the low side.
