Air intake manifold question

I was poking around in the engine compartment after getting my car ('08 MCS) out of the shop and came across something that seems a little weird.

Question: the plastic air intake tubing, which runs from the front grill area to the air filter box, is just "sitting" in the opening of the filter box. Is it supposed to be secured somehow? Seem as if it should have a clamp, a force fit maybe....something.

TIA

Yes it should be secure. It is held on to the filter box with a twist lock motion.

OK, thanks...that's what I thought. Just push in and twist? Will I feel or hear something that tells me it's secure?

In order to properly secure it, you should first remove the air filter top (4 torx T-25 srcews). You may have to remove one side of the turbo inlet tube (take off the clamp next to the MAF) if you need the space. Then remove the bottom part of the air filter (one T-25 torx screw on the left hand side). This is hidden between the tube going into the engine and the box on the left hand side of the box. After removing the torx screw, rock the bottom of the airbox a little back and forth to take it off. You will notice an air opening on the bottom of the airbox. Match the opening on the bottom of the air filter box with the air tube. Tint the box a little toward the back of the car till in fits into the air tube. After it goes in, tint it back towards you until the box is level. Then it is now secure. No real clicks but the two pieces should be secure together.

Reverse all the steps to secure the air filter box back into position.

Hope this helps.

It should take no more than 15 minutes.

Thanks slinger...I tried to simply twist and push and that didn't work. So I really appreciate the instructions. I'll give it a go tomorrow.

Looks like the tech did't get it all buttoned up after the timing chain work.

It is an easy fix so you should have no problems.

The tech is rather sloppy.

Got it. Went smoothly following your directions and now everything is buttoned up nice and tight. Thanks again...I'm noot sure if I could have figured it out with out your help.

One little clarification I might add: "This is hidden between the tube going into the engine and the box on the left hand side of the box". That little hose can be popped off thus exposing the T-25 torx screw.

Glad you got it. The car will run better now.

Good point. You are correct that the tube can be removed.
