strange issue with engine and melted plastic casing
the top lower right hand portion of plastic casing on the engine manifold has melted away? went on a road trip and noticed this as car was idling out of sync after the trip.
attached is a picture of a hose that comes into the right hand side and attaches to the casing. that part has melted away and the host appears singed as well. oil is visible on the inside of the hood above this as well. attached is also a pic of the actual location and one can see that part of the casing is melted away?
any ideas why this would melt or what might have happened? no warning lights at all during trip.
engine light outline comes on in yellow but not solid yellow.
off to mini shop tomorrow.

Wow your wiring loom that goes to the coils for the plugs is melted pretty good. That combined with a possible cracked turbo housing or oil supply line would be the source of the erratic idle. Definitely a warranty fix.
looks like you have an '07, I'd guess your hood scoop doesn't have the holes in it to help reduce underhood temps. Looks like it has been cooked by the radiant heat coming off the exposed portion of the turbo.
Let us know what the service department says, definitely not something you did to the car 'tho.

Consider having it towed in to the dealer. With that much damage from high temps and not knowing exactly what the issue is you have a potential fire hazard. Also if the harness melts anymore you could have a major electrical failure which would cause far more damage.
I would call your SA first and tell them what happened. See if they will flat bed it to the dealer for you.

bad gasket in the turbo casing. as this fell apart and it blew hot air on to the part shown in the picture melting it away. makes me question how well these cars are inspected at the factory as mini shop said it was bad from day one? car seems more responsive now as well. i think they should do a free inspection on the car to see what else might have been missed.
