First Service

Hey guys, first scheduled service tomorrow. Here is a list of what I'm expecting. Please tell me if I'm missing anything or off-base with anything. Thanks.

- change oil and filter
- check all fluid levels
- change air filter
- rotate tires and alignment
- check my drivers side window

Thanks again.

Really, I did not know that. I thought that was included. Guess I will just have that done for free at American Tire Co. where I bought my tires. Thanks for the heads up.

yea, anything that deals with the tires is not included. I think my dealer wanted over 60 dollars for rotation and close to 200 for alignment.

while we are on the subject, i was wondering about this too. i recently got a coupon from my dealer for an alighnment for 129.99 and was like what?? my car is only a year old, why are they sending me a coupon if its covered under maintenance. im having issues with my tires so im thinking im gonna have to pay for this soon.

so at 129.99 or 200 do they do anything special that a 79.99 alighnment at my local shop doesnt do? i just dont want to take any chances for an extra few bucks. my last car, infiniti g35, people were having problems getting tires mounted on to the stock rims when they went to a tire shop, the machine was scratching peoples rims.

On my first service (by OBC mileage countdown) they also changed the brake fluid.

Alignment is only covered for a shorter time than the rest of the maintainance. 800 miles I think. Its kind of expensive when the dealer does it.

Anyone know offhand when the car goes in for the first service? Is it 12,000 miles or 12 months?

When the service indicator says it needs it, which could be 15-20k miles, or if you don't get that far they'll do a "low mileage" annual service at 12 months.

Thanks, Btwyx. What timing; my car only has 10K miles, but today is exactly 12 months from when I purchased the car. Time for service!

That will be little more than an oil change. You should definitely have it done, but it isn't the full service of the countdown odometer.

I just dropped my MINI off this morning. Full service and a few warrenty issues. The windows won't auto up and the hood scop is melted. A few nice things is that MINI knows about the windows problem and is working on a fix for it, I asked if they can just throw the CF hod scoop on as this seems to be a problem that a new scoop doesn't just fix. I know a few people that have had it replaced 3 times before the CF scoop was just put on at no cost. My SA said he would see what he could do and that it shouldn't be a problem as MINI knows it is a problem. And the last nice thing is I got a bad@ss loaner. 2008 Dodge Challanger. They didn't have any MINI's to give me so they went through enterprise. Enterprise forgot I was waiting for a car so they "upgraded" me a bit for the wait. I must say this car is nice. I love the look of it and debated waiting for it when i was looking for a new car a year ago. Although I'm glad i didn't wait as the MINI is an amazing car the Challanger is nice to drive for a day or two.

first time I took my 02 in for service back in the day the dealer was out of loaners and took me to Enterprise as well.

It was raining HARD and they felt bad cuz I had to wait etc etc .... so they gave me a:

Lincoln Town Car

B4 the MINI I was driving a Miata .... my work parking space was in an underground garage. I asked if they provided tug boats to park the damn thing.

rotate tires and alignment
no need for alignment unless you've bumped something hard, but do get a rotation and re-balance on the tires.

Remember the average shop will not be able to perform an alignment to what Mini asks for. First, not many shops have all the ballist that Mini calls for when performing an alignment. Second, any car that has stability control will need steering angle sensors and yaw sensors reset. Something most shops will not be able to do.
