Pepper white paint problem or not?

Hello all,

Well, I noticed this a while ago but I just ignored at that time. However, now I am thinking this is a problem or not and I have not checked any other R56 yet. Please check your R56 if you have enough time so I can save time to go to check MINI dealer. I have attached the pic.

This things are both left and right side, but right side has little less than left side. They are right above the bumper and I don't know how to explain this things. And my MA told me that there is no disclosure from VDC when I picked her up.

Any other R56 has those things?

It looks like the paint is peeling from under the body panel. I'd take it in to your dealer (if you are still under warranty) to have them look at it. If you are out of warranty take off the rear bumper and check it out yourself.

Thanks Jeremy,

I emailed MINI service manager with picture and he said it looks normal and there are no corrections available for this under warranty because he think it is part of the paint process.

Next time when I drop by MINI dealer I will check it out other MINIs.

Maybe it's just the photo, but it looks like the body and the bumper are 2 different shades of white.....

I agree, there is definately a difference in the bumper color. I just checked my Mini and it is smooth in that joint. That looks like a sloppy repair Job that was done by someone other than the factory. I would imagine if a closer look was taken with the car on a lift you may see more evidence of a repair.

well, that bumper may look like a different shade due to the flash... plastic bumper will reflect the light different than the metal body panel.
I've never noticed any paint like that on mine, though. Doesn't look 'normal' to me.

I think I noticed this one week after I picked her up and I just ignored it because I just love to drive.

Sorry because of the picture, there is no difference in the bumper color at all, I think it's just shade due to the flash. Yeah, it does not look normal to me too, but I never went to body shop or did paint work. I remember the delivery date was on time no delay at all. So I am wondering what happened to my MINI during part of paint process.

It could possibly be some seam sealer that is applied at the factory then went through paint. Is it rubbery like caulking? My wife's PW does not have the problem.

BINGO!! we have a winner.

We've had several minis in our bodyshops and have seen that before. It's just seam sealer. You should be able to razor blade it off. I can't tell from the pic if it extends past the rear bodypanel or it's underneath...

Regardless, unless it's physically hanging out, it won't hurt anything.

My 07 Mini had the same goo under there and it was just some sealant that was applied in a rather sloppy manner in the factory. My 07 was Chili Red and you couldn't really see it unless you looked carefully. Since yours is Pepper White it shows up more. My current 08 has it but it was applied more carefully so you can't see it.

I went to dealer to check it out... yeah, it was not only my mini problem. I checked several R56s and guess what? I could see something similar the paint thing. The Pepper white is most, mellow yellow, and oxygen blue too, even R57...

Thanks much.
