Prob buying a new Cooper S soon!

Well, I am pretty sure that I am going to buy a new Cooper S here soon! Yet as me being only 16 still talking to my parents fully about it, I hope it all goes good!

Good luck with the parents. I think a MINI is a great first car. If they don't go for the MCS, you can still have a lot of fun with an MC.

Talk about getting a motorcycle. They'll probably be thrilled to compromise with a MINI.

Having been 16 once too, get the justacooper. If you're paying for your own gas you'll be grateful and that extra HP is just too darned tempting.

Id say dont get the "S" unless you know you can control yourself on the roads. It's a lot of power without some experience and maturity under your belt. I know I got into enough trouble starting with a crappy Saturn.

+1

My first one was a Chevy pickup and I remember thinking it was the greatest thing. I drove it like it was an MCS. Ahh, to be cool again...

LOL...I also started with a Saturn, but I actually like my old SL2!

Still, for starters, I might recommend the justacooper because it's not as expensive, but it's still zippy like a Mini should be!

How can you afford it? When I was 16 I could barely afford an old Dodge.

So what's wrong with the Mellow Yellow MC? I don't understand why that's not good enough. Given the chance, I would have taken that and run when I was 16.

I'm with Coyle966, how can you afford to buy an MCS and give an 07 MC to your mom?

Sooo... you are 16, you have a nearly new MC already, want an MCS, but you already have a speeding ticket?

Consfused. Having a liscence should be more important to you than the type of car you drive. You will be tempted to drive faster in the MCS. It doesn't mean you will-- but you will be tempted. We all remember what it was like to be 16.

Sounds like you are getting it anyway... you really don't require anyones thoughts or approval other than your parents. Best of luck with your choice.

Save your money for University/College. That's what I would tell you if you were my son.

dooo it. you only live once... if i could have i would have. Got into 5.0 Mustangs instead... The intense fear of driving those things in Ohio winters w/ no airbags/no abs/whimpy drums out back/high-gear RWD made a helluva good driver out of me.

Yeah these are quick and peppy, but not really super fast and dangerous like many of the cars you could get into...

My first car was a 1968 bmw 1602 with a bad clutch, almost no 1st gear and a hole i could fit through between the pedals and the seat. A base MC sounds like a great first car to me, I wouldn't let my kid have an MCS until they were a better driver, unless they paid for it.

My first car was a 91 Corolla 2 weeks after I turned 16 and I hated it, so in 3 month I got a 91 Accord, 2 door with stick shift. This was right before "The Fast and the Furious" came out, so I was all about the rice burner culture
As I got older I started getting slightly better and more expensive cars (wasting money along the way), and then at a certain point I realized that its important to find a car you love to get into in the morning and even more so after a long work/school day.

Driving fast is not the same as driving recklessly or just plain stupid. Moreover, there are too many ppl on the roads who should not drive. There are people who have serious health issue, there are older people who cannot react as fast (I'm not knocking on old people or suggesting none of them should drive), and many other examples.

A small car like the Mini actually makes you a safer driver than the idiot in an large SUV who thinks he can go fast in the snow cause he has AWD. Too bad it does not really help him stop
Mini is what some call active safety. You're more in tune with the car and the road. You're not floating, you're actually driving.

As far as tickets go...
My first ticket I got 2 miles after leaving the dealership in the Corolla and have been getting them regularly ever since. I have had tons, I mean too many to count, almost all of them for speeding. The two times I got a stop sign ticket I went to court and fought it. I actually fought some of my speeding tickets as well and was successful(as long as its not radar).

I admit, it is a huge stupid waste of money
However, speed limits should be set by engeeners, and not by corupt local politicians who drove your city/county to bancrupcy (I live in Chicago so I get to experience it on all levels of government). Some of the speed limits are totally ridiculous. Last week I got one for going 47 in a 30, where absolutely no one ever drives 30. There is no school there or any reason to go so slow, its a plain old speed trap. The cop clocked me 3 blocks away from my house. I actually almost got away from the cop, already started entering my garage by the time he turned around and cought up with me, but got blocked by a slow *** neighbhoor of mine who was coming out of the building's garage at the same time
Over they years I got lots of experience with speeding tickets, and fought off a good # of them. Those that I did not win, I plead down and/or attended the dumb safety school. I have my license and my driving record is spotless-clean!
While I have great respect for law enforcement, I despise the fat, lazy donut eating morons who got beat up in high school, had a C- average and now work as cops in safe, sleepy suburbs with no crime. All they do is hide out behind curves, bridges and other road obstructions and give out speeding tickets They also lie on what they write on their tickets and reports.
If pulled over always request to see the radar reading...always!!!

In any case, 2 more year and I will be ticket proof It is costing me almost $50 grand a year for 3 years, but hopefully there will be some other benefits than being able to get out of speeding tickets that will allow me to recoup the enormous amounts of debt i'm taking on for these 3 years (not allowed to work even part time, so I take out another 35-40 for living expenses)

Sorry about the rant, touchy subject I guess so it just set me off.
