Coming up on 100K...

I purchased my '07 Mini in July 2007. I will be hitting my 100K mark in a few weeks (currently 98K on the odometer) and I was wondering what are some of the typical issues that I may encounter. So far the road has been pretty smooth. I have only had to replace the hood latch, 1 set of brakes, 2 engine belts, and about to put on my 2nd set of tires. All of my oil changes are up to date as well as the ecu updates. The mini has been very good to me from a maintenance standpoint as well as from a mpg point of view (currently averaging 37.3mpg). One of my best investments.

Happy motoring....

It is a standard Cooper. It is a daily driver for me. I am in the car approx. 4 - 5 hours per day (256 miles round trip) to work. I have added satellite radio so the commute isn't that bad. During some of the snow days, I will leave the car at home and drive on of the other vehicles to work, but most of the time I am driving the mini. I cannot say enough good things about it so far. I am hoping that the streak keeps going....

Holy Crap! 256 miles roundtrip every day? I'd either have to move closer to my job or get a job closer to my home. What part of the country are you in?
How long ddo you think you'll kepp your car? Just run it till it stops? Chances are good that you could get 200 -250K out if it doing nothing but hiway miles like this, well done!

Most of the miles are highway. The only reason that I don't want to move is that I like where I live (Poconos - Pennsylvania). I have to commute to NJ for my job but it makes it all worth it when I get home to the peace and quiet. Although it is a lot of miles, there is one person that has more than me. They use their mini for work (salesman). I plan on keeping the car until it doesn't move anymore - don't know if I can say the same thing for my job but it is a job.

Right on Shawn--great thread. I know many have had legitimate issues with their MINIs but hearing a story like yours every once in while brings another perspective. When I read your post, I'm thinking you have a great commute. 256 miles in your MINI every day? You lucky dog! Oh, I'm sure some days aren't so fun, and I'm guessing you have few twisties on the way to work, but still, some of my best time anymore is in the MINI.

Here's to another 100K for you!

Thanks for the vote of confidence. There are no twisties on my way to work. The weekend and my Ferrari are for the twisties. I do enjoy driving my Mini. It is very nimble and is a blast to drive. I am amazed with the awesome luck that I have with this car. I'm sure I will run into some issues but if I treat the car right, it will "hopefully" treat me right. I agree, here is to another 100K....

I have always enjoyed driving. It has been getting hard now that I am over the 40 year mark. Don't know which is going to give out first, me or the car. Time will tell.

Tires?!

I'm just wondering, how can you have 980000+ miles and still be on your first set of tires?! I drive my MCS rather sparingly most of the time and with just over 20000 miles, I can already tell I'm going to maybe get another 10000 (fingers crossed) miles out of them.

Granted they are the more performance oriented 17in Continental Contipro Contact run flats, but 980000 miles on the standard issue 15in tires. Please tell me how you milked so many miles out your tires. I could use your tips.

No, my original post stated that I'm about to put my second set (or should I say third set) of tires on the vehicle. I'm hoping to hold off until August timeframe but they are starting to sway in the rain so I may have to replace them sooner. Sorry for the confusion.

It is obvious to me that in order for a car to be as reliable as yours it has to be driven a lot of miles. When it's just sits and only used on weekends than it starts having problems. These cars are ment to be driven.

That is an understatement when it comes to my car. My car only sits maybe 2 days a week (less when I take it out on a Saturday during the winter). Why own a car if you are not going to drive it. So far the car has treated me great. I would highly recommend this car to anyone (especially those who commute).

Oh forgot to ask have you had your oil changed by the computer or on your own intervals? :-)

That is awesome indeed! I've got about 18000 miles on my 08 MCS, and the only reason I'm not driving more is I'm trying to make sure I get it paid off before my warranty expires!

Keep us updated as you hit those milestones!

Good thread, and 38mpg is excellent for your 256 mile commute. I doubt that many of the "all the rage" hybrids can match that number on the highway. What Mini needs is the diesel in the US. I read a short review of that new VW 2 seater diesel and it rocks. Gets like 45-50 mpg too. You gotta like it.

The hybrids are for people who have to commute in the city but if you drive them correctly, they can get some better gas mileage. My wife is averaging approx. 28mpg with her Toyota Highlander Hybrid. Yes, she also drives a lot as well. She averages 120 miles round trip per day.

I finally hit it....

Today I have reached the 100K plateau. Everything is still running like it was when I first picked up my car. Here are the before and after pics of the odometer (sorry for the blurry pics - I tried to take them while I was driving):

That's awesome news. My 2007 Mini is only two months newer, and I have just over 8,200 miles. I see we are on the opposite end of the spectrum. My Commute is 6.2 miles each way, and I never drive it in the winter.

Shawn, are you the BRG MINI I see tooling around in Eastburg? There aren't too many of us up here in the Poconos. Thank God I don't have your commute, but plenty of my frirnds up here do the same trip every day. I don't know how you guys do it.
