Ya I saw that article too and Saddle Rd on the Big Island of Hawaii is a horrific road and it does not look like that picture. You are driving a long thinking "wow Hawaii is beautiful" then bam you are on the Martian surface I would even go as far to say it looks like hell.

Yup, I remember when the speed limit was 55, then 45 and now 35. Personally, I think 35 is ridiculous but then again, I like to drive it the way it was meant to be driven.

Wow, the Dragon must be pretty tame if CA Hwy 1/Big Sur beats it. My driveway is scarier than that, but then there are people who wont come to visit because of the driveway.
I don't have a good photo of the driveway, but here is the view from the top. It is switchback with about a 400ft elevation change over about two tenths of a mile.

Wow, that is REALLY beautiful. Deal's Gap (Tail of the Dragon) isn't that spectacular view wise... that's really outstanding.
I don't know how "tame" it's considered but the attraction is 318 curves in 11 miles. Some of the turns are so sharp, you could high-five yourself...lol.
It's pretty technical but the view from the Cherohola Sky Drive is much tamer but much nicer to drive if you're out for a nice scenic drive.
I'd love to visit CA to drive those roads...
Maybe one day.

Drove Hwy 50 from Ely to Fallon Nv. Even took the old section (now hwy 722) thru Eastgate. Meh. Saw lots of cars.
Drove thru Utah from Mexican Hat to Hanksville on Hwys 261 and 95. Didn't see another car for 148 miles. Broad daylight in October. Omega man syndrome was setting in.
