Trans. faulty! Drive moderately

Hi every one,

I need help!!!!

I was driving my automatic MCSW R56 the other day, and suddenly out of nowhere, the WARNING:

TRANS. FAULTY! DRIVE MODERATELY.

Shows up!!!

the car got stuck in 3rd gear, and I couldn't shift up nore down!

Called my dealership and they've asked me to drope it off for a day or two at their garage.
The only thing is that knowing them, they'll manage to pin it on me and they'll probably charge me big time!

Has this happened to anyone yet?
Also there's an imagine illustration on the RPH monitor that look like a rotor or a pulley of some sort.

anyone?

I really need you guys..

Thank you all in advance...

Peace & MINI COOPER-ATE

OP: I'm really sorry to hear about your predicament. I'm not sure how they can pin in on you. Have you done any mods? I won't jump to conclusions yet regarding the warranty claims. I've heard of tranny issues with the 1st gen but only a handful(they posted on NAM) for the 2nd gen. Hopefully you'll settle it with the dealership at little to no cost. :(

The OP was asking for support from fellow motorers and that's your response? Seriously?

Doesn't really help the OP, does it? Also, judging from some posts here on NAM, manuals can also have issues. It's unfortunate that someone has a serious issue with their MINI, the OP is asking for our help or advice.

Is it still stuck in 3rd? Can you start from stop in 3rd gear?

Are there any other dealerships that are close enough you're comfortable driving to? You're free to bring it to any MINI dealership for warranty service. My friend brings his to one dealership for maintenance (for convenience) and another for warranty claims (better service).

2 posters after me have to stop getting so butthurt. It was simply a comment, and a very true one at that. Manuals are easier to fix and troubleshoot. Automatics, especially the steptronic, not so much. There is little advice any on here can give except, take it to the dealer.

It's an R56, so it's got to be only about 2 years old at most? I believe all Mini's are warranted for at least 3 years. If it's under warranty don't stress, they'll fix it.

Your manual would be easier to fix and troubleshoot. Whee, yay. Doesn't change the fact that the transmission in question is borked.

You added nothing to the conversation. Congrats.

mrpumuki, I've not had any issues with mine. I'm assuming the Trans. Faulty, Drive Moderately response is the equivalent to the "limp home" mode from the first gens (would explain the "getting stuck" in 3rd gear). Since the trans didn't just outright die, hopefully it's not something major, and you can get back on the road quickly. Keep us updated!

You drive a manual because it is easier to fix? Sounds like my stepfather who bought a manual Focus because it was cheaper than the automatic, despite the stop and go traffic he does. Urgh, take those comments to another thread.

If the transmission is still driveable, it could be a computer glitch. Who knows, hopefully it is, but they will not be able to pin it on you. Do you race cars? They aren't going to know if you haul butt everywhere you go, and even if you do, they still have to honor their warranty. There is nothing in the warranty that says:

You must remain under 5000 rpm and 75mph for all drivetrain warranty claims to be honored. So sorry.

You're covered... but does your car still start?

Is the OP in Switzerland? His profile doesn't indicate, but the last line of his post (beneath the photo) says Switzerland. Or maybe that relates to the photo?

well then perhaps posters wouldnt respond this way if you gave a TEENY bit of thought before posting such a boneheaded statement. The OP is looking for guidance, not arrogance.

Wow......
So many answers that involves questions.
Yes I'm from Switzerland, and yes I modded my car a bit.
I can still drive, but the car has no power, has said earlier, it's stuck in 3rd gear.
The wierd thing is that when it started, it would only happen and get stuck to 3rd gear after a few minutes driving. Now, I turn it on and "BLAOW" straight to the bips and lits.

Got it schedule this friday for a full check up, and I seriously hope that some of you are right, and that it's nothing major!

Thanx for all your posts.

I'll keep you guys posted, but meanwhile if anyone has a clue... don't forget to post.

Peace

I'm considering JCW Stage I For my MCSa - how much can that AISIN TF-60SN handle in long term?

All posters above me seriously need to stop (edited by admin) because someone made a comment they don't agree with. For (edited by admin), what happens when somebody really insults you in real life. Get over yourselves, especially when 90% of you have made the same useless comments that offer no help, except condolences that you really don't even mean.

mrpumuki: Heard anything yet from the dealer? Maybe an initial diagnosis from them?

Pinky Demon: ... I was going to give a retort but you're right. We'll just agree to disagree.

Instead of PM informing you that in polite society your behavior is not tolerated or wanted I figured I'd be public. It's really very simple, the OP asked for some help, you offered nothing and then tried to get around the site guidelines. That might be fine with you an your friends but here it is not. Please go back and reread the site guidelines if you want to continue to be a member of NAM. If not, enjoy your life, I for one will not miss you.

Sounds like something went wrong with the transmission (obviously) and it went into safe mode. Hopefully it's just a reset or reload of software. I'd be interested to know what they do to fix it, I have an automatic too and love it!

I doubt it's a software issue (although I hope I'm wrong). Could be several different issues but there's no point in diagnosing it on here. MINI will honor their warranty - don't worry.

Agreed. But just to toss an anecdote out there... My girlfriend's 2006 CVT kept going into limp home mode a few months after she got it. Took three different visits to the dealer and a transmission specialist from MINI flying in to take a look at it to determine... the rubber gasket that kept out moisture from the electronics box wasn't sealing. That rubber boot was replaced, and the problem was resolved. Sure enough we went back and realized it hit limp home mode shortly after we had received rain or it was otherwise moist out.

So it could be something simple, but it's just gonna have to be up to the dealer to figure it out, and as BlackSapphire said, don't worry, the warranty should cover it.

Great. I love being criticized by somebody who thinks they are holier than thou. Last time I checked, I was bothering nobody, but apparently NAMers have to get high and mighty instead of just ignoring it. And again, all this talk about adding something to this thread is absolutely ridiculous because with the exception of two comments or so, all other posts add NOTHING. None of you are pinpointing exactly what the issue is, none of you are giving sound advice on how to repair it, but yet ALL of you think your responses are useful. Hypocrites FTW.

Seems to me your the who thinks you are holier than thou. Thats it I'm done. I am curious as to what the transmission problem is tho.
