Comfort Access Door Auto Lock/Unlock

My wife is recovering from a bit of surgery and I've been driving her '07 MCS. It's a great car, quick, nimble and lots of fun.

How do I get the Comfort Access to unlock the doors when I approach the vehicle and lock them when I leave it? The manual says it will, and I've found posts on here that say it does. But it doesn't.

Is it a programming task, a new key fob battery, both, or something else?

There's no "Auto-lock" feature. It's just the little black button. Push it to unlock, hold to lock. (At least that how it works for me)

Still very useful though.

that would be SOOOO cool if the car unlocked when the key is in range and locks when it is out of range.
