Thanks for your insights..no offense taken. I wasn't really meaning to squeeze every last ounce out of the dealer, but more just wondering if the downward spiral of the economy has made it so that we can get a better deal. I'm not one to beg for anything, and the $1000 was just down right offered to me even though I have no previous relationship with any BMW dealers.

A way that I look at this is, when the economy was decent and it was a sellers market, Mini was selling a lot of vehicles. They were charging anywhere from $1000 to $4000 above MSRP. Now that the economy has slowed down and it's a buyers market, wouldn't the same apply to us?

Anyways, I figured that I would accept the $ off and just casually ask if he could swing me a deal on the driving lights. If no, then so be it.

Carlisle,

I agree completely with you regarding the need for courtesy and respect. I believe, however, that your experience in getting price reductions and free goodies has a lot to do with ordering a "loaded" vehicle. If you had ordered a "base" model, I doubt that you would have gotten either. (I'm assuming that your list of options is typical of the cars you've bought).

There may be some truth to that. I have never considered it really... but perhaps you are right. I think too, people need to realize that we buy these cars in different countries-- I mean, I'm from Ontario Canada, and the starting price of the MCS (with no options added) is $29,500. Go to the Ausralian website, and the base price is $39,000 for them.

My car, after taxes (ouch) and freight, and all the options I orderd (which-- yah, was a lot) topped out at almost $40,000. Yikes. BMW 128i was looking even more appealing at the point! ( I remember eyeballing it as I sat at the desk with the sales rep!)

The more you haggle, the more you shop around, the better a deal you will get. I firmly believe the "best" deal, is not the lowest price. I've gotten low prices on cars before, walked away feeling like I stole the damn thing, then had to deal with HORRIBLE customer service for the next 4 years I owned it!

I do consider my car quite loaded-- but I'm not one of those ppl that has to have every option in order to be proud of their car! I am currently driving an MC PS/B with comfort and convenience packages. It is quite base! I got a great lease on it for my business though, and after having it for a year decided I would rather "own" an MCS and tinker around with it a bit. I like to customize my cars too much... I added the aux. driving lights to the lease car myself, and the checkered sunroof graphic.(installed myself btw!)

I got 500 off, free floor mats, and an adorable stuffed bulldog with a MINI jacket on an ordered MCS before the discount it was 26,300 so it wasn't really that loaded. financed through BMW with 3.9% for 48 months. There are deals out there, it just takes persistance and patience. I visited one other dealer and they were up front that they offered no discounts. I ordered mine at the first of February right after the bad numbers had come out for January.

The leather options cost $1000-1500. I would rather just spend $250 on piano black.

I'm new on the forum, I have been lurking (learning), but this is my first post because I just ordered an 09 JCW - as in a few minutes ago.

The discount came to $2264. My girlfriend helped me out by calling 3 different dealers in two states (I'm in Iraq, kinda hard for me to call around).

Hopefully the Mini will get to the dealer right around the time I get home from Iraq - I can't wait to drive it!!

Ordered an 09 MC last week. Only options were cruise control, hi-fi stereo and front floor mats. Paying cash and dealer took $500 off msrp.

Alright, i am feeling goo about going to talk to my MA tomorrow. My build should have enough "cushion" for the discount i am looking for to make the downpayment/finance work. Since it is an order it won't be in until the end of may so the current rates will change (assume they will go down/stay the same)

Thanks kdubber! I am here with the Army - I fly AH-64D Apache Longbow helicopters (hence the lost in 64d ). Because of flight school and deployments I haven't had a car in 5 years so I'm pretty excited about the new order!

I should be more specific - the MSRP is $36,300 - I ordered almost every non-JCW option minus NAV so I think the $2200 discount is fair. I looked at 1 series BMWs, the Volvo C30 or a used Lotus, but the Mini just looks more fun - I'll only get to drive it for a year, then back to the desert so I decided to splurge! Thanks again for the well wishes.

Well, I just picked up my PW MCS yesterday!!! Already hate the runflats but love the car. Probably will replace them with Bridgestone 760 Sports next week and sell the RFs. Dealer agreed to absorb the recent 1% sales tax hike in CA (eff 4/1/09) resulting in an overall approx 1000 off an ordered car. But my feeling is that 1500 or even a tad more is available for taking a car off the lot esp with dealers like mine with 150+ cars in stock. One gripe: How come a performance car made by BMW doesn't have a temperature gauge? I'd even settle for one in the OBC instead of garbage like instantaneous mpg or average mph which are totally useless. Tomorrow and SUnday are supposed to be glorious here in the SF bay area. Wonder what I'm gonna do?
